FROILAN SALUDAR CONTINUES REBUILDING PROCESS

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU ? Froilan Saludar turned pro in 2009 and compiled an 8W-0L-1D record before he got his first shot at a regional title. He knocked out Remuel Obidos in the opening round for the vacant WBO Youth Asia-Pacific flyweight belt in a fight held in 2010 in Imus, Cavite.

Three months later he stopped out Thai Phaiboon Chumthong, also in the opening round for the vacant WBO Youth flyweight crown. The future looked bright for Saludar and his unbeaten streak started to create a buzz in the local boxing community.

One of his notable wins was a televised fight held in Cebu at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-lapu City in 2012, beating Mexican Alejandro Morales by unanimous decision.

He was nearing his goal of getting a world title fight in 2014. Saludar was 19W-0L-1D with 12 KO?s when he was pitted against Puerto Rican Olympian McWilliams Arroyo in an eliminator for the number one flyweight contender spot of the IBF.

Saludar?s unbeaten run was stopped in the second round by Arroyo?s left hook. Saludar, a former national team member, was fighting abroad for the first time as a professional. Arroyo would go on to lose to then IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng by split decision in Nakhon Rachasima, Thailand.

Saludar would win four straight fights and campaigned as a super flyweight. But in another crucial overseas bout against a contender last year, he lost a unanimous decision to Takuma Inoue in Kanagawa, Japan. Inoue was down in the first, but Saludar was dropped in rounds eight and nine.

Saludar, of Polomolok, South Cotabato, is now 28 years old. He still has a lot of boxing ahead of him. He won his last bout three months ago by first round TKO against Roque Lauro in Cagayan de Oro, his first fight since losing to Inoue.

Froilan, a.k.a., the Sniper, is one of fifteen siblings. He comes from a known boxing family. His brother Rey, was a gold medalist in 2010 Asian Games and another brother Vic, won a bronze in the same Asiad. Vic is currently ranked number two in the world in the minimumweight division by the WBO.

The Saludar brothers will see action this June 10 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Froilan (24W-2L-1D, 15KO?s) will continue to rebuild his career and try to restore his contender status when he squares off against Salatiel Amit (10W-2L-2D,7KO?s) of the Omega Gym.

Last year, Amit lost to former world title challenger Jonathan Taconing by TKO in the tenth round in a WBC International light flyweight title bout held in Paranaque City. The 25 year old Amit bounced back last March by beating Renerio Arizala by unanimous verdict at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

The card billed as "ENGKWENTRO DINHI SA MANDAUE " VISAYAS VS. MINDANAO is promoted by Kenneth Rontal of the Championship Boxing Development of the Philippines.

The June 10 event will feature the WBO Youth Asia Pacific light flyweight title fight between undefeated Vince Paras of Gen.Santos City and Jimboy Haya of the Omega Gym. Also set to see action is another unbeaten Mindanao prospect Robert Paradero. Women?s boxing will also take center stage with Hawaiian Casey Morton vs Thai Phannaluk Kongsang. Vic Saludar will face Toto Landero.
