VILLANUEVA, MAGSAYO ON 'PINOY PRIDE 38' UNDERCARD AT STUBHUB CENTER SEP 24 By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 Jul 2016 'King' Arthur Villanueva and Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo will return to the ring on the undercard of ?Pinoy Pride 38 ? Philippines vs Mexico? at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on September 24 which will be headlined by the Philippines' longest reigning world champion Donnie 'Ahas' Nietes who will possibly challenge WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico. Villanueva (29-1-0, 15KO), who won the WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title over Juan Jimenez (22-10-0, 15KO) of Mexico last May 28 in Bacolod City, has been ordered by the WBO to rematch Jimenez after a sudden and bizarre ending of their last fight at the 21 second mark of the 4th round. In that fight, which had the making of a total war, Jimenez dropped Villanueva in the second round anchored on a six-punch combination but Villanueva returned the favor in the third, dropping Jimenez with a wicked right. In the 4th round, when Villanueva pinned Jimenez to the ropes in the red corner, their heads collided dropping Jimenez to the canvas who stayed there for a considerable amount of time but Referee Dan Nietes counted out Jimenez for a Villanueva victory. Now, Villanueva and Jimenez will do it again on Sep. 24. Magsayo (14-0-0, 11KO), who disposed former world title challenger Chris Avalos of California in six rounds last April in Cebu, will defend his WBO International featherweight title against a yet to be determined opponent. Magsayo has been training at Roach's Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles recently and returned to Cebu Monday from San Francisco together with the Pagara brothers Albert and Jason who co-headlined the 'Pinoy Pride 37' card at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, California. Magsayo is expected to head back to Los Angeles towards the end of this month.
