ZULPIKAR WINS WBO ORIENTAL TITLE, PAN AND YILIXIATI WIN WBO GREATER CHINA BELTS By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 10 Jul 2016 BEIJING, CHINA ? Zulpikar Maimaitiali of China captured his first regional crown when he dropped Thomas Mashali of Tanzania twice in their battle for the vacant WBO Oriental super middleweight title. The southpaw from Urumqi established his range early in the fight and tagged the East African with his power left. But Mashali showed toughness and was able to dish out his own shots. In the third round, two unimpeded left hands sent Mashali down face first. The Tanzanian got up on the count of eight and went for broke at the start of the fourth round. When the two boxers traded heavy hooks, Zulpikar sent Mashali to the canvas again. He got up but Referee Danrex Tapdasan correctly decided that Mashali has received enough punishment for the night. Time ? 0:53. Zulpikar was awarded the WBO Oriental belt by WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo, who supervised the bout. Zulpikar is now 7-0-1,5KO?s. Mashali drops to 18-5-1,9KO?s. This fight was the main event of the second of a back to back weekend fight card held in the Multi-Functional Hall of the Water Cube in Beijing?s Olympic Park. LEAGUE OF FISTS SEASON ONE FINALS: There were two WBO Greater China titles decided on Saturday. Yilixiati Ainiwaer reasserted his superiority over Dong Chaoqun in the super middleweight finals and garnered the WBO Greater China title by unanimous decision. Yilixiati?s left hook and overhand right was on target all night but Dong refused to fall. Dong?s offensive thrusts were few and far in between even when Yilixiati suffered a cut on his left eyelid due to an accidental clash of heads. Yilixiati tried to go for the knockout in the eighth and final round but to Dong?s credit, he ended the fight on his feet. In their first fight last October 24, 2015, Yilixiati stopped him in the first round. The scores were 79-73 from Surat Soikrachang, Mekin Sumon and Danrex Tapdasan. Yelixiati remains unbeaten at 8-0,6KO?s while Dong drops to 5-2,2KO?s. In what would be the best fight of the night, Pan Jinxiang and Liu Yongcai clashed in the finals for the super featherweight division with Pan prevailing by a razor thin technical decision. Pan built an early lead with his long left jab and right uppercut, targeting both the body and head of Liu. An accidental headbutt in the opening round inflicted a cut on Liu?s left eyebrow but the bleeding was stopped by his cornerman. But Liu continued his pressure and unleashed when he cornered Pan on the ropes. Pan landed with his one-two combos but Liu took them well. Pan may have had the edge in power, but Liu made up for it with sheer determination. Liu owned the 4th and 5th rounds when he drove Pan on the backfoot. Liu?s brutal volleys continued and Pan seemed the wilt under the assault. Liu?s cut opened up in the sixth but he responded like a wounded tiger and continued to press forward and fire volley after volley. Pan responded with his jab and uppercuts and in the seventh, more blood spurted from the cut prompting the stoppage and the fight went to the judges? scores. The fight was even after six rounds in all the cards but Pan won the seventh and won by 67-66 on the scores of Salven Lagumbay, Mekin Sumon and Sawaeng Thaweekoon. Pan received his WBO Greater China belt and moves up to 7-0,4KO?s. Liu drops to 5-4-2,4KO?s. Last October, in the second month of the League of Fists, Pan beat Liu by four round split decision FOR THE UNDERCARDS: Qu Peng of China knocked out Evy Johannes Akoundou of the Congo in the first round with a left uppercut in their light heavyweight tussle. Time - 2:34. Li Tonghui of China beat Makhsat Shman by TKO in the first round. Referee Danrex Tapdasan stopped it at the 1:50 mark with Shman pummeled and bleeding from hard punches. Marjo Borres of the Philippines and Liu Qiang of China battled to a four round majority draw. Scores ? Han Hongxiang and Du Liqiang ? 38-38, Luo Mei ? 39-37 for Liu. In a heavyweight clash, Wang Leilei of China dropped Manolov Alexandrov of Bulgaria with a stiff left in the opening round. Referee Sawaeng Thaweekoon stopped it at the 32 second mark. In the opening bout of the night, Mai Qinxian prevailed over Zhang Hongpeng by unanimous decision. Scores of 40-36 from Salven Lagumbay, Peng Yuanlong and Yuan Yunzi. The July 9 fight card was promoted by SECA and officiated by the Professional Boxing Commission, International.
