OMEGA BARES TWO BOXING EVENTS FOR JUNE AND JULY (PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY ? Omega Pro Sports, Inc. (OPSI) has bared two boxing events for the months of June and July as a follow-up to their 'Who's Next? Boxing Series' which launched early this year, this was announced during the press conference at the Manggahan Grill in Lahug hosted by OPSI president Pio Paulo Castillo and its Vice-President Chad Ca?ares.

Scheduled on June 11 at One Mango Square in uptown Cebu is 'Uptown Rumble' to be headlined by Omega mainstay and bantamweight prospect Jason Canoy who will take on Margarito Moya of the RWS Gym and co-headlined by Jerry Castroverde who takes on journeyman Hagibis Qui?ones.

On July 10, the 'Who's Next' boxing series will be back at the Robinson's Galleria where Omega's hottest prospect, the undefeated Jack Tepora will be back as well to headline the event. In the main supporting bout, crowd pleaser Kenny Demecillo will be back fighting in front of Cebuano fans after a two-year absence fighting in the country's hotbed of boxing. Both Tepora and Demecillo's opponents have yet to be announced.

?We've got a lot of boxers in our stable,? Castillo said, ?but we're bringing them up slowly but surely,? Castillo added who had hoped for a breakout by their boxers in the coming months.

?What we're aiming at this year is to make a lot of noise,? Ca?ares, for his part, said. Ca?ares also bared that they are currently in negotiations with TV outfits to elevate their boxing shows to the next level.

Cebu-native Canoy (24-6-2, 18KO) made headlines in the local boxing circuit when he knocked out title contender Drian Francisco in the first round during their 10-round scheduled bantamweight bout on May 30, 2015 in General Santos City. However, he lost by decision in his next fight against debuting 18-year-old Japanese Hinata Maruta last Nov. 22 in Osaka, Japan.

?I really lost that fight [against Maruta],? Canoy said. ?I failed to adjust to his reach and height advantage. He is very tall [Maruta is 5' 9?? while Canoy is 5'4?]. Additionally he is also fast,? Canoy said who is hoping to get back to the win column against Moya (9-2-0, 3KO) on June 11.

Meanwhile, featherweight prospect Jerry Castroverde (8-2-0, 4KO) is looking to build his record up against pedestrian boxer Qui?ones (5-17-1, 4KO). Castroverde registered back to back wins after losing John Vincent Moralde by decision on Sep. 26, 2015 in General Santos. He knocked out former world title challenger Lorenzo Villanueva in the 5th round last Dec. 12 in Davao.

Also seeing action on June 11 are: Jared Payao vs Jay-R Salvador, 8 rounds bantamweight; Kim Jae Ho vs Ryan Quimbo, 8 rounds lightweight; Salatiel Amit vs Junriel Jimenez, 8 rounds junior flyweight; Ponciano Rimandiman vs Macmac Baribar, 6 rounds flyweight; Jay-R Aliasot vs Holy Qui?ones, 6 rounds super bantamweight; Ar-ar Borbon vs Ian Rafuela, 4 rounds junior flyweight and Oliver Genecera vs Jonard Tabar, 4 round junior flyweight.
