PhilBoxing.com

The IIEE PSME Quezon City Simba’s Tribe led by IM Ronald Dableo together with Norman Madriaga, NM Jose "Jojo" Aquino Jr., Samson Chhiu Chhin Lim, NM Bob Jones Liwagon, Narciso Gumila Jr., and CM Marc Christian Nazario had a team effort of 25 points behind the 26.5 total of team Pasig City King Pirates led by Kevin Arquero who currently lead the 1st PCAP rated Individual Open Championship held at Estancia Mall Pasig on August 16, 2025. At the end of the 2-day tournament, all participating players will be rated under UPCRS.

The United Philippine Chess Ratings System (UPCRS), in partnership with Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), will be the official ratings body for all PCAP-UPCRS sanctioned tournaments starting from this event. A player's rating will then be officially issued and certified by PCAP-UPCRS, upon request. SPECIAL TITLES of Philippine Provincial Master (PPM), Philippine Regional Master (PRM), and Philippine Candidate Master (PCM), and REGULAR TITLES of Philippine National Master (PNM), Philippine International Master (PIM), Philippine Grandmaster (PGM) and Philippine Super Grandmaster (PSGM), shall also be conferred to all qualified players. Upon approval by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the titled players will be issued Special IDs indicating their being chess masters.

IM Dableo is tied with 5 others in the top with 5.5 points together with Arquero, NM Vince Angelo Medina, Jerome Villanueva and Sherwin Tiu. He had 4 wins and 2 draws and will be meeting Arquero in penultimate round 8. After completion of round 9, the points of the 5 members of the team will be computed as team score. Pairing among teammates (registered as team) will be barred for Rounds 8 and 9. The Top 16 individual then will undergo the knockout system with top 1 facing no. 16, 2 vs 15 and so on.

Targeting to start by September, a chess clinics and electrical safety orientation for kids will be held in the Barangays of Quezon City (QC). These projects will be led by Metro Central chapter who covers the QC Area with Paolo Tolentino, the immediate president of the chapter and Hanie Oviedo, the incumbent chapter president, with Simba’s Tribe to be facilitated by NM Marlon Bernardino and Samivin de los Santos and with Rjhay E Laurea II for possible linkages in Sanguniang Kabataan (SK), Kiwanis Club of QC Golden Hearts Jewels, Rotary, etc. Engr. Tolentino and Oviedo are connected to QC as their Professional Electrical Engineer and as part of the Engineering Department, respectively.-Marlon Bernardino-
