ROAD CLOSURES, TIGHT SECURITY DURING DONAIRE-BEDAK FIGHT By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Fri, 15 Apr 2016 CEBU CITY ? ALA Promotions and local city officials have completed their preparations for next week's Nonito Donaire Jr vs Zsolt Bedak WBO super bantamweight world title fight to be held at the open air Cebu City Sports Center which is expected to attract 30,000 spectators. Jonathan Tumulak of the Cebu City Transportation office, David Senior, operations chief of the Cebu City Police and Jett Ibo of the Quick Response Team face the local media Friday to bare their plans and to address any concern fight day. Also present during the press conference were ALA executives Jeana Alvarez, director of operations, Leilani Perpetua, operations manager and Chelna Locaylocay, Marketing & PR manager. Tumulak announced that starting at 3:00 p.m. on April 23, or as soon as the street fronting the Abellana National School / Cebu City Sports Complex gets busy on the afternoon of April 23, they will close to traffic the length of Osme?a Blvd (Jones Ave) from the corner of P. del Rosario to the Fuente Osme?a Circle, the length of R.R. Landon St from the corner of Osme?a Blvd up to Junquera St and the length of P. del Rosario St from Osme?a Blvd up to Junquera St. These closed roads can be used as parking areas for the ticket holders. Tumulak said that his office will be deploying up to 60 traffic personnel to man the area. Jeepneys (PUJs) plying Osme?a Blvd will be rerouted to F. Ramos St via Arlington Pond and R.R. Landon streets. Entrances/Exits to and from the Cebu Sports Center will at the main entrance along Osme?a Blvd for the higher priced tickets, entrance along R.R. Landon for the lower priced tickets and entrance along Natalio Balcalso Ave. for the VIPs. Police operations chief David Senior said his office will be deploying more than a hundred uniformed and plain clothes police officers to secure the entire area as well as putting up metal detectors to screen everyone coming into the venue from its three gates and deploy K9 dogs to check on vehicles and roam the area. Jett Ibo representing Harold Alcontin of the Quick Response Team, said their office is ready and on stand by for any untoward incidents and emergencies on fight day. The three city officials said they are excited and proud that Donaire-Bedak fight is held in Cebu and wish for a Donaire victory. Jeana Alvarez, meanwhile, said that tickets are selling briskly and the highest priced tickets are already sold out. ?We expect that the middle-priced and lowest-priced tickets will sell during the fight week. And basing on the trend of the ticket sales, we expect a sellout,? Alvarez said. The last time the Cebu City Sports Center hosted a boxing event was during the Fernando Montiel vs Z Gorres WBO world flyweight championship on February 24, 2007 that attracted 25,000 spectators.
