PACQUIAO GETS HIS CUSTOMARY MOUTHGUARD By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 20 Mar 2016 Be it for good luck or for protection or for both, Manny Pacquiao will never climb up the ring without getting a new mouthguard. He may use his old mouthguards while training but in the last 3-4 weeks before the fight, he will switch to the new one he will use for the actual fight to get acclimated to it. Needless to say we are honored and humbled by the fact that when he does, he would always wear the mouthguard we custom fabricate for him. Today at the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood, we presented Manny Pacquiao the new mouthguard he will wear for his third fight with Tim Bradley on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The mouthguard Pacquiao will wear, design-wise is far different from the others he used in the past. It is particularly different from the one he used against Floyd Mayweather Jr., or even JM Marquez or Tony Margarito. Manny Pacquiao?s fight mouthguard is designed based on many factors, the fighting style and history of his opponent being two of them. No two of his many mouthguards are designed the same way. The only exceptions are the mouthguards he used for the Bradley fights in the past. Against Bradley, all the mouthguards he used and will use are designed the same way. Just like the previous two, the mouthguard he got today was reinforced in the front section by a special harden material designed to absorb more impact. We design it this way because Tim Bradley on many occasions has been involved in head butts, accidental or perhaps otherwise. We are not saying that Bradley will resort to head butts during the April 9th fight. But, it is better safe than sorry. Top photo: Pacquiao and the author pose with Pacquiao's new mouthguard. Mouthguard closeup. Be that as it may, if a clash of heads occurs because of the different stance Pacquiao and Bradley have, Pacquiao will be adequately protected and his front teeth will be safe from harm. The mouthguard has three colors:- blue, red and white to depict the colors of the Filipino flag. It also sports a small Manny Pacquiao logo in front. Definitely, he will not be wearing the ?play? mouthguard we made a couple of days ago and whose photo we posted on the internet yesterday. That mouthguard had the logo of Pacquiao?s political party and its not allowed by the Philippine Commission of Elections to be used as it may ?create an unfair political advertising for Pacquiao?. Pacquiao as everybody knows is running a for a seat in the Philippine Senate in November 2016. So come April 9th, we are confident that whatever Tim Bradley will bring to the ring, Pacquiao?s teeth will be adequately protected.
