ALBERT PAGARA BLAMES "RUNNING" TALAVERA FOR THE DULL FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

The main event of the 35th edition of the popular Pinoy Pride series dubbed "Stars of the Future" turned dull as the Nicaraguan challenger Yesner Talavera kept "running" all night long just to stay on his feet as WBO intercontinental champion Prince Albert Pagara chased him and tried to send him to dreamland.

"All he did was trying to escape from my stinging punches," lamented Pagara in a phone interview. "Had he decided to slug it out with me the fight would have ended earlier."

The cheering fans thought the bout could end in the seventh round when Talavara fell to the canvas on a solid stab on his rib cage by Pagara. The Nicaraguan national champion went down on his knees with his gloves touching the floor but was able to get up in time for the count of eight.

From then on Talavera just coasted along not to be floored again. He jogged and backpedalled amidst the boos of the unsatisfied crowd who wanted to witness a brawl.

"He was like Guillermo Rigondeaux who run from his foe," said the disgusted champion. "And what I want to face is a fighter not an escape artist."

Pagara annexed the WBO intercontinental jr featherweight belt to his collections.

It was predicted by boxing analysts however that it was the style that the Nicaraguan challenger would use against Pagara. The foreigner clowned from time to time signalling to the champ that he could not knock him out.

When the bell rang ending the fight Albert was so disgusted that he did not approach Talavera. It was the champion's way of showing that he was not happy of the fight's outcome. It was the Nicaraguan who first went to Pagara's corner.

Foreign boxers of the same caliber should not be allowed to fight in prestigious promotions again. Although he was a late substitue to former world champ Juan Carlos Sanchez.

Pagara is scheduled to show his skills in San Francisco, California in July. And a hero's welcome awaits the WBO intercontinental champion when he goes home to Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
