NBA -- Reserves spark Raptors' eight win in a row
By Mark Josef PhilBoxing.com Tue, 26 Jan 2016
TORONTO- The Toronto Raptors clobbered the Los Angeles CLippers, 112-94, on Sunday at the Air Canada Centre, thanks to second unit which helped provide the spark.
The victory was the Raptors' eighth straight, a season-high which falls just one shy of the team record of 9 that the Raptors put together in 2002.
At 29-15, the Raptors are in second place in the Eastern Conference and the only team hotter then them are the San Antonio Spurs, who have won 13 in a row.
Trailing 34-27 at the end of the first quarter, Cory Joseph and company provided the much needed spark at both ends of the floor. By the end of the first half Toronto's bench had outscored the Clippers bench 24-8.
All told, Toronto's second stringers scored a total of 51 points. Terrence Ross led the bench with 18 points, shooting 5 out of 7 from the arc.
Cory spoke to PhilBoxing.com post-game and he credited playing alongside Tony Parker and learning from him with much of his play today.
When asked if Tony Parker gave him any tips on international play?
Cory jokingly responded, "Not really, his team didn't qualify either so he wasn't able to provide me any good tips."
The FIBA Olympic qualifiers are going to be played in 3 different locations this coming July. Canada is either going to play in the Philippines, Italy or Belgrade.
Canada will be vying for a spot at the 2016 Brazil Olympics after Canada Basketball came short in last year's FIBA AMERICAS tournament.
When we asked Cory if he had any preference where he'd like to to play, he told us he didn't really have a preference. However, since his current girlfriend and her family is Filipino he's a bit leaning towards playing in the Philippines.
Now that would be a cool treat for Filipino fans to see Canadian NBA stars Cory Joseph, Andrew Wiggins, Tristan Thompson and the rest of his Canadian NBA compatriots to play in the Philippines. I'm just not sure if that's such a good thing for Gilas.
FIBA is set to announce the schedule for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament on January 26, 2016.
