STARS OF THE FUTURE: ALA YOUNG GUNS FACE GRIZZLED VETERANS ON PINOY PRIDE 35 By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Mon, 25 Jan 2016 Jerusalem flattens Omayao. CEBU ? ALA Promotions will showcase three of its promising young prospects -- Melvin Jerusalem, Jeo Santisima and Elmo Traya -- who will each face a big name in Philippine boxing on the stacked undercard of 'Pinoy Pride 35: Stars of the Future' scheduled on Feb. 27 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City. Undefeated 20-year-old Melvin 'Gringo' Jersualem (8-0-0, 7KO) of Bukidnon, will take on former world champion Florante Condes (27-9-1, 23KO) in what will be Gringo's first acid test to his blossoming boxing career. Jerusalem stopped his last 7 opponents inside the distance after winning by decision in his professional debut on July 13, 2014. His last outing was against journeyman Crison Omayao (10-17-3) last Nov. 28 at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-lapu City where he dispatched Omayao in the 2nd round. Condes (R) with Budler. Condes, nicknamed 'Little Pacquiao' for his punching power, captured the IBF minimumweight crown by defeating long time title holder Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia on July 7, 2007 in Jakarta but Condes lost it in his first title defense against Raul Garcia of Mexico on June 14, 2008 in La Paz, Mexico. Condes went on to have a couple of significant title fights, against future Thai star Wanheng Menayothin for the WBC international silver minimumweight title on June 24, 2011 and against world champion Hekkie Budler of South Africa for the IBO world minimumweight title on Sep. 22, 2012 where Condes lost both fights. Condes's last outing was against future Japanese world champion Ryoichi Taguchi where Condes lost by decision on July 5, 2014. The Jerusalem-Condes matchup is expected to be a slambang 8-round affair that will most likely end in a knockout. Santisima (2nd from right) during his weighin against Boysie Sultan. Demecillo (R) with Arhtur Villanueva. 19-year-old Jeo Santisima (8-2-0, 7KO) of Masbate will face slugger and crowd pleaser Marco 'Singwancha' Demecillo (21-4-1, 16KO) of Iligan City in an 8-round super bantamweight bout in another barn-burner of a matchup. Santisima has won by stoppage his last 6 fights the last one was a second round demolition of veteran Jerry Nardo (20-9-0, 11KO) last Dec. 30 in Balamban, Cebu. Demecillo was one of the hottest boxing tickets in town after he amassed a 18-0-1 record with 13 stoppages but got derailed after he badly lost to Arthur Villanueva on April 20, 2013 in Davao City for the OPBF super flyweight title. Demecillo went on to fight and lost to David Sanchez of Mexico for the WBA interim super flyweight title on Jan. 18, 2014. He also lost to Australia's TJ Doheny on May 15, 2015 for the PABA super bantamweight title. Demecillo is back in the win column after knocking out Roger Echavez (7-16-1) in the first round last Jan 12 in Cagayan de Oro City. Traya downs Rota. 19-year-old Elmo 'Bisdak' Traya (10-1-0, 8KO) of Mandaue City will take on unpredictable Romeo 'Jako' Jakosalem (16-11-1, 6KO) of Davao City in an 8-round super lightweight bout. Traya has been building up his resume and honing his skills behind the shadows of his more illustrious stablemates and is now given a chance to shine against Jakosalem who got the fans' attention after he defeated visiting Steve Claggett of Canada in 2011. Jakosalem, who fights in the lucrative super lightweight division, later fought more outside the Philippines, in Korea, Australia, Thailand, Japan and China where he amassed a disastrous 1-5 losing record. 'Pinoy Pride 35: Stars of the Future' is headlined by undefeated Prince Albert Pagara (25-0-0, 18KO) who will on take on Yesner Talavera (15-3-1, 4KO) of Nicaragua for the WBO Intercontinental Jr Featherweight championship. Co-headlining the event is fast rising star Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo (12-0-0, 10KO) who will take on Eduardo 'Fierita' Montoya (17-4-1, 13KO) of Mexico for the WBO Youth Featherweight championship. Also on the card is hot prospect Kevin Jake 'KJ' Cataraja (2-0-0, 2KO) who takes of Chatpetch Por Pakdee (2-1-0, 1KO) of Thailand in an 8-round flyweight bout. In the curtain raisers, Muhammad Radhwin of Singapore will face Melchor Roda of Samar in 4-round super featherweight and Esneth Domingo of Sultan Kudarat vs Vic Ejercito of Mandaue in 4-round minimumweight.
