NBA -- Cavs end their preseason on a high note (PHOTOS) By Carl Tomakin PhilBoxing.com Wed, 21 Oct 2015 CLEVELAND -- Entering Monday night's preseason game at the Quicken Loans Arena, the Cavaliers and the visiting Mavericks were both win-less. But J.R. Smith and Kevin Love made sure to change all that, scoring 19 and 10 points respectively to help Cleveland beat Dallas, 103-97. As their exhibition season record rests at 1-6, the Cavaliers have a full week off before opening their regular season on the road against the Chicago Bulls on October 27 at the United Center. LeBron James, Mo Williams and Anderson Varejao did not see any action but actively spurred their teammates on. "As preseasons go," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle joked before the game, "it's somewhat interesting." Smith made all three of his 3-pointers in the third quarter, Matthew Dellavedova had 13 points and five assists in a starting role and Richard Jefferson had 10 points and six rebounds. for Cleveland. Jack Cooley, who was released by Utah last week and picked up by the Cavs, was tremendous off the boards with 15 rebounds. Although James has appeared in only two preseason games, head coach David Blatt all but guaranteed LeBron's readiness next week. "I would say he will absolutely be ready for the season opener. Absolutely," Blatt said." James, a 13-year veteran who turns 31 in December, received an anti-inflammatory injection in his back last week. "I would hesitate to put Bron in the category of an advanced-age player," Blatt said. "He's not. He is in terms of the number of games he's played or given the fact that he's constantly deep into the playoffs and his greatness helps his team achieve those levels. But LeBron's in pretty good shape, and he's done pretty well so far, and we will of course constantly consider what his physical state state is but I don't think we have to go overboard. I mean, that guy is a great, great basketball player, and he's also proved to be durable and ready to play." Click here to view a list of other articles written by Carl Tomakin. |
