ELORDE GRANDSONS SCORE EASY WINS OVER INDONESIAN OPPONENTS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 13 Sep 2015 The grandsons of the late great world junior lightweight champion Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde scored easy victories over outclassed Indonesian opponents before a good crowd at the Flash Grand Ballroom on Sucat, Paranaque on Saturday. Elorde?s namesake Juan Martin ?Bai? Elorde, the reigning WBO Asia super featherweight champion had to struggle against a much shorter Yakobus Heluka whose awkward style prevented the son of Johnny Elorde from getting into his rhythm and frustrated him no end. However, the Filipino southpaw dropped his Indonesian opponent in the final seconds of the opening round and then again in round three with a solid left hook. Elorde sent Yakobus to the canvas again with a big left hook and a right straight and finished him off in the sixth round with a solid uppercut with referee Ver Abainza calling a halt at :38 seconds of the round. With the 6th round TKO win in a scheduled ten round bout the 30 year old ?Bai? Elorde improved to 18-1-1 with 8 knockouts. Younger brother Juan Miguel Elorde made short work of last minute substitute Arnold Mau sending him to the canvas with a right straight and a left hook to be counted out at 1:20 of the very first round. The Indonesian who replaced Rasmanudin because his passport would have lapsed in less than six months and he was notn allowed to board the flight from Jakarta was knocked out cold and had ti be administered oxygen for several minutes while he lay on his back on the canvas, motionless. It was a clear mismatch as Mau entered the ring with a forgettable record of 2 wins as against 5 losses and it soon became evident that he was coming off a four round decision over fellow Indonesian Bert Ndun over two years ago. The win improved undefeated WBO Asia bantamweight champion Juan Miguel Elorde?s record to 19-0 with 10 knockouts. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
