NBA Daily: Spurs Dominate Mavs 125-92 Behind Wembanyama’s 40 in Season Opener By Reylan Loberternos PhilBoxing.com Thu, 23 Oct 2025 ![]() Tagbilaran City, Bohol – The San Antonio Spurs dominated the Dallas Mavericks 125-92 to open their 2025-2026 NBA Season on a positive note on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Spurs Head Coach Mitch Johnson’s wards were clicking on all cylinders, buoyed by 7’5” French phenom Victor Wembanyama’s historic 40 points, to go along with 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. Dallas, the team acknowledged around the league as perhaps the team with the most formidable frontcourt depth, were dwarfed by Wembanyama’s dominance. San Antonio outrebounded Dallas 50-37 and the Spurs limited the Mavs to just 37.3% shooting from the field. Reigning Rookie-of-the-Year Stephon Castle masterfully orchestrated the Spurs offense and finished with 22 markers on a very efficient 8-for-12 field goal shooting, 7 boards, 6 dimes, and 2 steals. Dylan Harper, the 2nd overall pick in the latest NBA Rookie Draft, debuted with 15 points of his own, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 2 assists to team up with Castle in the Spurs backcourt. Anthony Davis top-scored for Dallas with 22, but needed 22 shot attempts to achieve that. Top Rookie pick Cooper Flagg had a miserable shooting night hitting only 4 of his 13 field goal attempts, although finishing a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards. The Spurs were without starting guard DeAaron Fox, who is still nursing his hamstring injury, and starting forward Jeremy Sochan, who is also down with a sprained left wrist. San Antonio will travel to New Orleans to face the Pelicans Friday night (Saturday morning, Philippine time). Meanwhile, the Mavericks will try to bounce back as they host the Washington Wizards in Dallas on the same night. How They Scored: 28-29; 60-51; 93-72; 125-92 Spurs – Wembanyama 40, Castle 22, Harper 15, Vassell 13, Johnson 11, Barnes 7, Champagnie 5, Jones-Garcia 5, Ingram 3, Kornet 2, McLaughlin 2 Mavs – Davis 22, Washington 17, Flagg 10, Thompson 10, Christie 9, Nembhard 8, Russell 6, Lively II 4, Marshall 3, Hardy 3 Comments are highly appreciated.
