Which way to the world championship, please By Recah Trinidad PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Nov 2014 GOING by their preferred tools, the main protagonists in the Nov. 23 world welterweight boxing championship at The Venetian in Macau are out on two separate missions. Or, to put it bluntly, heading in two different directions. Also, as the championship has been designed to be a gala night, a grand ball, champion Manny Pacquiao and challenger Chris Algieri could be preparing for two different occasions. Pacquiao worked with a fiery rock band, while his handsome rival soothed it out with a dreamy symphony orchestra. ** To be more specific: Algieri, Captain Courageous, swears to do it via control, control, control. Pacquiao, Master of Mayhem, on ther other hand, never fails to sow chaos in the opponent?s soul. It will be calm versus explosiveness, as suggested by the announced weapons. ** Ironically, Pacquiao has remained cool and collected, while Algieri continued to blast the pre-fight scene with noisy claims on how he could never lose. Have they preferred to swap assigned roles? Well, call it an unscheduled outburst or what but Pacquiao on Tuesday let out a mouthful and dismissed Algieri as just another greenhorn. ?He?s just a boy,? Pacquiao stated. ** Pacquiao, needless to say, will work sharp and strong to prove his point come fight night. He certainly will spew fire. Meanwhile, Algieri, generally believed to be bereft of knockout power, may just spring a surprise after his handlers said he could check in with a big right hand, which had practically remained concealed in his last few bouts. ** All told, the fight should go to the warrior who rules the dance floor. A symphony number could be both inadequate and boring. Why do the waltz when you can rock ?n roll? Let?s go Capt. Chaos! ** (CAINTA HOOP SPECIAL: A selection led by legendary rifleman Allan Caidic and Cainta Mayor Keith P. Nieto will see action in a fiesta day basketball celebration at the Cainta One Arena on Sunday, Nov. 23. Other games: 2 p.m. San Beda (Under 15) vs Colegio Sto. Domingo; 4p.m. Mapua Cardinals vs Trinity U; 6p.m. San Beda Red Cubs vs Fatima University.) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Recah Trinidad. |
