AUSTRALIAN MANAGER WARNS ABOUT NODA FIGHT IN THAILAND

PhilBoxing.com

Well known Australian promoter and boxing manager Peter Maniatis says he is concerned over the scheduled April 13 fight between Jury Noda who has a record of 5-4 with 4 knockouts and undefeated Thai Saddam Kietyongyuth who has a record of 12-0 with 8 knockouts.

Maniatis contacted this reporter and claimed he was the manager of Noda who he said is a ?good, tough Filipino boxer? based in Angeles City. Maniatis said Noda fought undefeated American Charles Bellamy (2-0, 1 KO) last January 13 in Tokyo and suffered a second round TKO.

Maniatis was surprised to see Noda scheduled to fight the undefeated Saddam on Good Friday in Pathumthani which is about 30 minutes away from Bangkok. Maniatis said ?no one has contacted me about Noda fighting in Thailand and I am his manager.?

The Australian promoter/manager expressed his concern over Noda?s scheduled six round bout since Noda had ?just been hurt in his last fight and needs an easier fight to build himself up again.? Maniatis stressed ?I am worried for Noda in this fight and hope he does not get hurt in the ring.?

Maniatis said he would ?rather give him the money he will receive in this fight with the Thai? and stop Noda from going through with the fight.

Pointing out that he was both a promoter and manager and can see ?both sides of the deal? but emphasized ?my heart is always firstly with the well-being of the boxer? conceding that promoters ?sometimes forget that boxers are human beings with loving families.?

This reporter immediately informed Philippine Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain who immediately contacted GAB Commissioner Angel Bautista and boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz regarding the claim of Maniatis and his concern for Noda. Buhain?s initial reaction was to ask Bautista to talk to the Thai promoter and have the fight called off.

However, after talking to Dr. Cruz, the GAB chairman said there is ?no existing boxer-manager contract between Noda and any manager? according to the GAB record keeper of BMC?s Mrs.Yandan.? Buhain said Noda ?is being handled only by Charlie Sanchez, his trainer.?

The chairman at the same time said Maniatis ?has to coordinate with us to get a license and be recognized because Noda?s boxing commission is the GAB.?
