PACQUIAO SADDENED BY SISNORIO'S DEATH
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 03 Apr 2007
The world's most exciting fighter pound-for-pound, Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao, yesterday expressed sadness over the fate that befell on compatriot Lito Sisnorio, who died in Thailand on Saturday morning following a bout with his former rival Chatchai Sasakul.
Pacquiao, who first learned of Sisnorio's tragic death while perusing the Philboxing.com website, said that Sisnorio's death should be cause for concern and a thorough investigation should be conducted.
The Games and Amusements Board meanwhile, through Chairman Eric Buhain, has ordered the immediate ban of sending fighters to Thailand, according to boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz.
The GAB, according to Cruz, plans on holding bilateral talks with boxing authorities in Thailand in an effort to curb the rampant human trafficking of boxers to see action as 'whipping boys' in Thailand for a chance to earn a few thousand pesos.
Pacquiao attended at 9AM mass yesterday at the Christ the King church in Los Angeles, then had lunch with his entourage in Chinatown before proceeding to do some shopping at an upscale mall Macy's, where he also bought stuff for members of his team.
"Masaya si Pacman, tawa ng tawa at very confident sa laban nya," said a source from Team Pacquiao, who added that the Filipino icon's mood changed when he came across the news of Sisnorio's death.
"Nung umuwi siya sa Palazzo nagpahinga at tiningnan ang balita sa Philboxing at Pacland at ikinalungkot ang nangyari sa namatay na boksingero," added the source.
Pacquiao then tried to console himself by watching a basketball game on television, while practising his latest single "17" with him strumming the guitar.
