PE?ALOSA?S WIFE MAD NOT SAD

PhilBoxing.com

Goody Pe?alosa

Former WBC super flyweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa?s charming wife Goody isn?t sad over her husband?s loss to WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon. But like she said ?she?s mad not sad.?

Pe?alosa believes he won the fight and even those who contend he lost a close fight continue to praise his gallant showing and blast the judges once again for their ridiculously lopsided scoring.

If Pe?alosa and his wife check out the CompuBox Final Stats they would probably get even madder at the judges and the WBO whose officials in less than a month have incurred the ire of respected Filipino boxing promoters, managers, media and fans beginning with the highway robbery committed against Z ?The Dream: Gorres who completely out-boxed WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel but lost the fight thanks to referee Samuel Viruet who without warning deducted two points from Gorres for holding and judges Raul Caiz Jr and Chuck Giampa who put Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles to shame.

If punch stats percentages decided fights, then Pe?alosa should have been a hands down winner. In terms of total punches thrown and landed Penalosa beat Ponce De Leon silly in every single round with his biggest margins being in rounds two, 48 to 19 percent and round three, 48 to 18 percent.

In terms of jabs thrown and landed the percentages in favor of Penalosa were even more pronounced. In round two it was 40 percent to 4 percent for Penalosa. In round six it was 5 percent o 50 percent while in the final round it was 50 percent to 6 percent.

Even in the case of power punches again Penalosa dominated the percentage tallies but not as overwhelmingly as in the other categories although he still did better in nine of the twelve rounds.

But while Pe?alosa was comfortably ahead in the Final Punch Stat Report of punches thrown and landed it failed to add up in pure numbers. In total punches Penalosa connected wuth 36 percent to the mere 19 percent of Ponce De Leon except that the champion threw 1399 punches and landed 259 while Penalosa threw far fewer punches, 481 and landed 175 which in effect meant that Ponce De Leon hit Penalosa with 84 more punches.

In respect to the total number of jabs, Ponce De Leon connected with a mere 46 of 596 but Pe?alosa connected with 43 of 134 which was three less than the champion while in power punches Ponce De Leon caught Pe?alosa with 213 out of 803 while Penalosa nailed Ponce De Leon with 132 out of 347 which again showed that the champion connected with more punches. That then was the name of the game ? the fighter who connected with more punches in every category won. Too bad fights are not decided on percentages.
