A STAMPEDE AT THE MGM GRAND

PhilBoxing.com

Las Vegas, NV: Soon after the Floyd Mayweather victory over the Marcos Maidana Saturday night, people started to spill out of the MGM Grand Garden Arena -- all ten thousand plus of them at the same time.

Of course the going was very slow owing to the number of people wanting to get out of the place through just a couple of small doors.

Additionally the process was not made easy by some people who elected to hang out at the small area just after the doors leading to the media room and the Casino.

The very design of the Arena is trouble-in-waiting. The two small doors that appear to be designed to channel all the fans through the Casino (hoping they will probably stay and play a few bucks) are not enough to allow everyone a quick exit.

Then it happened.

Someone started pushing and fights broke out. Then someone yelled ?gun?. This led to a stampede of the fans. Some fans managed to run through the media room creating panic as no one knew why all of a sudden there was a very large surge of people. Fortunately, there were no injuries at the media room save for a few photographic equipment scattered all over.

Most of the injuries were at the lobby. I personally saw two people being helped by the paramedics a few minutes after things calm down allowing people to leave again.

After a few minutes when the security finally got hold of the situation, things settled down and the post fight press conference started.

Oh the fight?

Floyd Mayweather won via a majority decision because one judge decided that the fight was a draw. The other two scored it widely for Mayweather - 117-111 and 116-112.

In the supporting main event, Amir Khan dropped the game Luis Collazo of New York three times but failed to finish him. The fight ended in a unanimous decision for Khan with the scores as follows: 117-106, 119-104 and 119-104.

Khan drops Collazo.

Broner and Molina.

There were talks about Khan finally getting his dance date with Mayweather. But judging from how things came out tonight, that may have to wait. Perhaps Maidana will get another shot at Mayweather. But then again, it may not happen.

Adrien Broner won his fight against Carlos Molina via a unanimous decision with scores as follows: 99-91, 98-92 and 100-90 from my buddy from New Mexico Levi Martinez.

Bronner may have won the fight but he lost a lot of his value instead when he uttered ?racist remarks? at the after fight interview. ?I just beat a fucking Mexican today,? he stated.

I was tempted to cut him some slack after his interview. After all in my opinion he is nothing but an uneducated jerk and perhaps an ignorant idiot. Otherwise he would not say what he said.

J?Leon Love won the vacant WBA International Super middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Marco Antonio Periban of Mexico to open the televised portion of the fight card.
