NBA Playoffs - Wizards end Bulls season with Game 5 victory By Kristy Gonowon PhilBoxing.com Thu, 01 May 2014 ![]() CHICAGO --With their backs against the wall and their season on the line, the Chicago Bulls battled in vain against the Washington Wizards in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinals Tuesday night at the United Center, losing 75-69. In a year that saw the loss of star Derrick Rose to injury and the trade of Luol Deng to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Bulls did not have enough juice to stave off elimination and fell short of moving past the first round of this year's playoffs. Although the Bulls created opportunities for themselves by converting 13 Wizards turnovers into 15 points, their Achilles heel was their abysmal field goal shooting, making only 25 of 75 shots, despite guard Jimmy Butler and guard Kirk Hinrich each banking 16 points. The Bulls also suffered a huge scare when forward Taj Gibson fell to the floor hard as his left ankle buckled underneath him in the fourth quarter. The sole highlight for the Bulls was center and Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah, who pulled his defensive weight by pulling down 18 rebounds and contributing 7 assists. Even though the Wizards got the win, they were not without faults. While the Bulls had four players scoring in double digits, the Wizards' offensive power came mainly from three players, guard John Wall, who had 24 points, forward Nene, who banked 20 points, and guard Bradley Beal, who notched 17 points. The team also relied on the free throw line for points, going 13-of-19. The Wizards were less than textbook defensively by committing 19 team fouls and going 2-for-9 from the 3-point line. The Wizards close out the series 4-1 and advance to round two where they will play the winner of the Indiana Pacers-Atlanta Hawks series. The Hawks are leading that series 3-2, with a do-or-die Game 6 for the Pacers on Thursday.
