NBA -- Wizards win Game 2, push Bulls to 0-2 hole By Kristy Gonowon PhilBoxing.com Wed, 23 Apr 2014 ![]() CHICAGO -- A season that has showed so much promise is suddenly on the brink. It was deja vu all over again at the United Center where the Chicago Bulls lost to the Washington Wizards in overtime, 101-99, in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Just like Game 1 which they lost, 103-92, after squandering a 13-point third quarter lead, the Bulls couldn't hold off the Wizards. This time, Chicago was up 10 with 6:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. And then the drought came. The Bulls couldn't buy a bucket, making just four field goals in the entire fourth quarter. That opening was all the Wizards needed to mount a furious rally that ultimately led to a Wizards victory and an imposing 2-0 advantage in this best-of-7 affair. Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 25 points on 9-for-20 shooting while John Wall filled the stats sheet with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Nene recorded 17 and 7 boards while Maretll Webster chipped in 10. Despite their scoring woes late, the Bulls had a golden opportunity to force a second overtime and salvage slipping season. But Kirk Hinirch missed the first of 2 free throws in the final 2.4 seconds of the extension. He intentionally missed his next free throw but the Wizards' John Wall grabbed the rebound. D.J. Augustin led the Bulls with 25 points but with 6-foot-8 Trevor Ariza chasing him like a stalker, Augustin was held scoreless in the final 13 minutes of play. Joakim Noah had a huge night with 20 and 12 boards, Taj Gibson pitched in 22 and 10 rebounds, but the Bulls missed 58 of 88 field goals, including just a 5-for-17 fare from 3-point range. The Bulls head to the Verizon Center for Games 3 and 4. They hope to become only the fourth team in NBA history to capture a series after losing the first two meetings at home.
