BRUNO ESCALANTE IMPRESSIVE IN 1ST ROUND KNOCKOUT WIN By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Sun, 02 Mar 2014 ![]() 28 of February 2014, Redwood City, CA -- Emerging young fighter who is originally from Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines and now making the Bay Area his home, Bruno Escalante (12-1-1, 6 KO's) showed an exciting brand of boxing when his calculated attack knocked out veteran Lorenzo Trejo (33-29-1, 20 KO's) of Mexico City late in the first round at the Fox Sports Theatre in Redwood City Friday night to retain his IBA super flyweight title. Escalante showed brilliant footwork, lightning speed and thunderous power as he was firing combination punches from different angles, but none bigger than the left hook body blow followed by a right hook to the head that scored him a brutal knockout win over his opponent in the opening round. Escalante, who migrated to Hawaii when he was 8 years old where he earned his nickname "Aloha Kid" and who now trains in San Carlos, CA, told Philboxing, "I'm very excited for the knockout win and I can't wait for my next fight scheduled April 5th at Cache Creek Casino Resort." It was a short night for the main event at Foxwoods Theatre that the fans, who came to root for Escalante, thoroughly enjoyed. ![]() ![]() Photos by Joan Secuya-Medida.
