World Boxing Council Unveils Special July 4th Commemorative Belt Honoring USA 250th Anniversary

PhilBoxing.com

The World Boxing Council proudly unveils its exclusive 2026 July 4th Commemorative Championship Belt, a specially commissioned masterpiece created to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America and to honor the enduring values of freedom, courage, resilience and opportunity that have inspired generations around the world and represent the spirit of boxing.

The commemorative belt will be presented to the winner of the WBC Featherweight World Championship bout between reigning champion Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington and undefeated Mexican challenger René Palacios during a bout scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio, live worldwide on DAZN.

“The WBC proudly represents the entire world,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán. “Our commemorative belts are expressions of respect, friendship and gratitude to the nations that welcome our champions and our sport. As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, we are honored to dedicate this special belt to the American people. Boxing has always reflected the dreams of those who dare to overcome adversity, and those ideals are deeply connected to the spirit of Independence Day. On July 4, the world will witness not only a great championship fight, but also a celebration of unity through sport.”

For more than six decades, the WBC has celebrated the cultures, traditions and historic milestones of nations across the globe through its iconic commemorative belts. While the World Boxing Council is proudly an international organization representing more than 170 countries, it also recognizes the importance of honoring the rich heritage of the host nations that welcome championship boxing and its global community.

This year’s edition pays tribute to one of the most significant milestones in American history—the nation’s 250th anniversary since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

The belt’s striking design reflects that historic celebration through a bold patriotic aesthetic while preserving the timeless prestige of the WBC championship tradition.

At its center, a magnificent silver medallion showcases a flowing American flag beneath a prominent “250”, symbolizing two and a half centuries of American history. Above the centerpiece, the inscription “July 4th” commemorates Independence Day, while the iconic WBC lettering anchors the design below. Elegant laurel branches frame the flag, representing honor, victory and excellence.

The vibrant royal blue leather strap is decorated with white stars inspired by the American flag, accented with red and white trim that completes the patriotic color palette. Silver eagle emblems appear on both sides of the center plate, evoking strength, freedom and national pride.

Adding a deeply personal touch to the championship, the belt features custom side medallions displaying the portraits of both competing fighters—Champion Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington and challenger René Palacios—alongside the logos of the event’s promoter, Top Rank, making this a unique keepsake forever linked to this historic contest.

Beyond its visual beauty, the belt represents the universal spirit of boxing itself—a sport that transcends borders, languages and cultures. Just as athletes from every corner of the world pursue excellence inside the ring, the WBC continues its mission of promoting unity, respect and friendship through competition.

As a global governing body headquartered in Mexico with champions representing every continent, the World Boxing Council views boxing as a bridge between nations. The July 4th Commemorative Belt is therefore not only a tribute to America’s remarkable 250-year journey, but also a celebration of the international ideals of freedom, determination and opportunity that resonate far beyond any single country.

On July 4 in Cleveland, one fighter will successfully defend his title or another will realize his lifelong dream of becoming world champion. Whoever has their hand raised will also earn the honor of receiving a championship belt created to commemorate a landmark moment in American history and another unforgettable chapter in the World Boxing Council’s proud tradition of celebrating the world’s diverse cultures through the sport of boxing.
