Luis "El Nica" Concepci?n Retains WBC Silver Flyweight Title in Panama; Wants Akira Yaegashi Next By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 21 Feb 2014 PANAMA CITY, PANAMA - Hard-hitting Panamanian Luis "El Nica" Concepci?n of Panama scored a convincing victory over tough Carlos "Divino" Fontes of Sonora, M?xico to retain for the third time his WBC Silver Flyweight Title Thursday night (Feb 20) at the plush Figali Convention Center here in Panama. The relentless forward-charging "El Nica" Concepci?n (31-3, 22 KO's) made good use of his preferred weapon, his powerful straight right hand, to knock down the taller Fontes twice throughout the intense battle, first in round 5 and down again in round 7. The 23-year-old Fontes of Sonora, M?xico, was being rocked again in round 8 when international referee H?ctor Af? stopped the combat due to a severe cut on the Panamanian's his right eye, which profusely bled as result of an damaging accidental headbutt. The third man's halting of all fighting actions in round 8 prompted the decision to go to the scorecards, which had Concepci?n comfortably ahead on the cards of the three ringside judges. The WBC official cards were: Judge Jes?s Alem?n of Panam? voted 88-81, Judge Thomas Nardone of Florida, USA, 88-83 and Judge: Benjam?n Rend?n of Tijuana, M?xico, scored 88-83; all in favor of the winner Luis "El Nica" Concepci?n. To celebrate his win, Concepci?n climbed one of the ring posts and performed a back-flip jump, a rather dangerous leap that the 28-year-old "El Nica" performs each time he scores a knock out win. Tonight he did it twice. "I am happy. It was a good fight. The Mexican was a good, elusive opponent and tonight I am thrilled to retain my WBC Silver belt. Next, I'd like to fight the WBC regular champ (Akira Yaegashi). I'd go to Japan to fight him," said Concepcion during a ring interview with TV Max Channel 9. Tonight's card headlined by Luis "El Nica" Concepcion vs Carlos "Divino" Fontes for the WBC Silver Flyweight Title was a production Rogelio Espi?o, director of Promociones y Eventos del Istmo.
