MONTIEL, GORRES PRESSCON QUOTES!

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU, PHILIPPINES--WBO superfly king Fernando Montiel and Z "The Dream" Gorres faced the media together for the first time today at the very well-organized press conference held hours ago at the posh Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

It was fittingly one of the best, if not the best, boxing press conference put together anywhere in the Philippines in recent years, according to American visitors who were present.

Present at today's final press conference were promoter Sammy Gello-ani, GBP vice president Eric Gomez, Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim, WBO vice-president for Asia Leon Panoncillo, international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz, ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo, Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, Jimrex Jaca, Simson Butar-Butar, Bert Batawang, Alex John Banal and Sofyan Efendi of Indonesia.

Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today's Ronnie Nathanielsz ably hosted the press conference. Here's some of the quotes at the press conference

PROMOTER SAMMY 'DON KING' GELLO-ANI
"The moment of truth is finally with us...I welcome everyone, especially those who flew several hours just to come. There were people who did not want to come to the Philippines because they heard somethings, but when they came, they wanted to come every month. I am referring to the executives of the Golden Boy Promotions. These are the true gentlemen. Our partnership is not even one year, and now things are bearing fruits. Thanks Eric for coming in, despite your hectic schedule. To Sampson Lewkowicz, who have made things happen. We were always burning the lines. And things are now happening. I will also mention Mr. Leon Panoncillo for all the help. And to Team Montiel, for being nice, and for saying that the Filipinos are very hospitable. You are always welcome to Cebu. And also to Team Butar-Butar, thank you for coming. And to the guests and to the tri-media, especially those who came from the United States and all the other nations, we are very thankful for your coming to see this biggest boxing event in Cebu. And to all the sponsors for coming out to support this event. And to ABS-CBN, without whom these things should not have happened.

ERIC GOMEZ, GBP VICE-PRESIDENT
We've got a great world title bout on Saturday night. It can be fought in the US, in Mexico, it can be fought here. No matter what happens, its going to be a great fight. Fernando Montiel is a great champion. I believe that he is the best 115-lb champion out there in the world. And Z Gorres is one of the best prospects. And he has his hands full, and he has to go through fire if he wants to be a champion. We will see who's gonna be the winner. The better man wins this Saturday night.

Boom2s is a phenom. He really is. We're excited about him in the United States. He's been in some big cards. He's gonna have a big test this Saturday. He's definitely be a world champion someday. How soon, only time will tell. The sky is the limit for Boom2x.

Its great to be working with Jimrex Jaca again. He had a helluva fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, who will now fight Marco Antonio Barrera. Eric Morales did not want to fight with him. But now Barrera stepped up to fight with him. But before Barrera, Jimrex stepped up to fight with him. So its great to be working with you guys here in Cebu, Philippines. And we're gonna be doing a lot of business.

SAMPSON 'PICASSO' LEWKOWICZ, INTERNATIONAL MATCHMAKER
First of all, i want to thank all the Filipinos. I want to clarify that Marino Gonzalez was ready to fight next week in Mexico City. But i took him to fight here. It is very hard for a matchmaker to do a great show. But we have faith in God, and guidance in patron Mr. Aldeguer. Im very proud with Marino Gonzalez for stepping up, and it will be a tough fight.

Z Gorres is a great, great prospect. And i want to give an applause for Mr.Montiel. My tocayo Samson, to me he is a Michaelangelo, he paints a boxing for the Philippines, and he paints 'Moment of Truth' in Cebu. Don King is the past, you are the present.

Thank you to everyone, especially the press for being here. God bless the Philippines, God bless America, and God bless all of you.

FERNANDO MONTIEL
Thank you for the welcome. We thought we would come with hostile crowd. But we were wrong. This is like fighting at home. I would do my best. Gracias. As what i've seen of Z Gorres, i respect him. But i am here to retain my belt.

Z GORRES
Magandang hapon sa inyong lahat lalo na sa press at mga bisita natin. Magandang laban ang fight na ito. Sigurado po ako sa sarili ko. Talagang preparadong-preparado na po ako. I'm 100 percent mentally fit and physically fit. Kaya gagawin ko ang lahat para makuha ko ang titulo. Para sa bayan natin at buong Pilipino ang laban na ito. I will give all my best in this fight. Thank you.

REY BAUTISTA
