Some Pacman’s fans disagree By Fidel D. Banzon PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Feb 2007 I am amused with the reactions of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s fans on my article “Pacman; no retreat, no surrender”.. Democracy is still alive in this country. Freedom of speech, expression and of the press is widely used by persons interested to contribute for the welfare of the country. Readers may open their browsers at http://forum.philboxing.com/ This website is a good means to reach the other side of the world and express their opinions on what is going on in the Philippine Boxing. Below are some of their reactions. “What can I say big time pro-pacman, bias? got paid to write positive things only?..who knows, no matter what I'm still not convinced that a 5th grade education only should be given a chance to enter politics.” -c4pacfan, Sampaloc (quoted verbatim) Sorry, I am not an “envelopmental” journalist. True I am being paid per article One Hundred Fifty Pesos (P150.00), by the publisher of Leyte Samar Daily Express. Following is also from the PhilBoxing forum. “Entertaining, very ideal but with what’s happening to him at present time with all the bad decisions and listening to all those questionable characters (trapos and suckers), Signing 2 contracts without truly knowing the complications. Alienating people who helped him put where he is now... His integrity is now being questioned. “Your suggestion is too good to be true. ”My forecast: Win or Lose. Pacman minus Pogi”- Thunder_knuckles The reactions below were directly sent to my email address. They are better than those commentators in the forum because at least I am able to know them by their names. “A debate from your article because you did not write it fairly. You’re a bias writer...” -Kimberly Yawan, email: zayde0924@yahoo.com I am bias. That is true. From reading the book “Journalism for Filipinos” by Alito L. Malinao, in page 133, states: “Opinion vs. interpretive writing. Some people equate interpretive writing with opinion writing. But this is not so. Although opinion writing is one type of interpretive writing, it is basically personal and biased. An interpretive reporting presupposes an attempt on objectivity by first presenting the facts before interpreting them. This is not found in column writing or in other types of opinion pieces where the author’s bias is immediately evident.” Mr. Malinao’s writings only manifested that the comments of Pacman’s fans whether or not favorable are also bias. That is the beauty of having the Fourth Estate wherein everyone’s view is an eye opener. Of course, the readers are the judges, who may also have the chances of expressing their personal and bias opinions. Below are few of those who have expressed their honest opinion. I admire and thank you all. “I recently read your column at philboxing.com with regards on Pacman's political plan. I don’t agree on it. I respect your opinion. Maybe he has the right for it actually. I don’t want him to run not because of his lack of education. I believe that anyone can manage or help his/her country or constituents even lack of education but it would be dependent on its character and good moral principles. But I also believe that you don’t need to be a politician to help you constituents, you can still help even you’re a politician. “The question is, will he can be both prioritized his two professions if ever? Cong. Dudut Jaworski said some weeks after Manny's victory over Morales that being a politician is a full-time and how could he still prioritize his trainings if he would be a politician? Freddie Roach recently said that "boxing is a full-time!" and he really wants Pacquiao to stop running, to pack-up and back on his gym (LA) ASAP. Maybe he still has a one-month to campaign after his fight in Texas (if the things are done for it). How about his focus and concentration for his upcoming trainings and fight? “Rod Nazario, his former manager said that he can run for political office but he needs to finish his career first and I agree on it. He, Manny Pacquaio really wants to pursue his political ambition; he must finish his boxing career first. “I hope that you wouldn’t take this personally. It's just my opinion. Thank you.” -Jeff Angara, email: jeff_redlion@yahoo.com “I love your article and your solid support for Manny. There is no doubt Manny can be a good politician but being a good politician and maintaining belts in boxing at the same time will have an effect in his performance and efficiency in some ways or another. I also like the advice of the COMELEC chairman that Manny should retire first from boxing before concentrating in politics. Mahirap mamangka sa dalawang ilog at the same time. “Well, if he decides to go for the two, we shall wait and see.” -Nilo Lancita, Toronto email: nilolancita@295.ca “Re: Pacman: No Retreat, No Surrender, you hit the bulls eye! Thank you for that wonderful write-up. An honest, no hold-bar lines from an experience good journalist. I am on the same opinion as to Manny' s running for congressman for South Cotabato. Go, go, go Manny go! Wishing you, Fidel, more power in your column. God bless you and your family.” -Arturo V. Ello (formerly of Oroquieta USA, email: arvello2002@yahoo.com Well, I hope I have made clear that not all can be satisfied to what others are doing. However, a good exchange of views is truly a healthy sign that we are still a human being. Mabuhay! (Email g_duna@yahoo.com) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Fidel D. Banzon. |
