MELLIGEN, AMONSOT READY TO RUMBLE!

PhilBoxing.com

SEOUL, KOREA--Both Mark Jason Melligen and Czar Amonsot easily made weight at yesterday's late weigh-in, and have vowed to do their best as they face separate Korean foes here for vacant WBO Asia Pacific titles here.

WBO Vice-President for Asia Pacific Leon Panoncillo, who is flying to Hawaii after working the bouts here to attend to the wake of his recently departed father, said Melligen and Amonsot will be facing tough Korean foes.

Panoncillo will be supervising today's card which is promoted by international boxing impresario Sammy 'Don King' Gello-ani and his Korean counterparts.

The undefeated Melligen goes up against local hero Dau Chung in the 12-round main event for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific junior welter title.

In the co-feature, Tagbilaran's Czar Amonsot takes on Korean Young Sung Kim for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific lightweight crown.

The Filipino group arrived only last night and immediately took part in the very late weigh-in, no thanks to the late arrival of their passport and visa, which was also due to the late arrival of the invitation letter from the Korean organizers.

Starving and visibly irked by the late weigh-in, the two Filipino fighters immediately went down the Korean Boxing Commission office to get their first bite of heavy meal after a few days of maintaining their weights.

The Filipino contingent, as well as Panoncillo and the Thai official, and international referee Bruce McTavish also lamented the non-issuance of their meal allowances. The Filipino boxers and their trainers are still looking for the organizers as of press time to ask where to take their next meals.

The group, however, have consoled themselves looking at the terrific photos of the boxers posted by 'Jaxan' at Pacland (mannypacquiao.ph), the sister website of Philboxing.com.

International referee Bruce McTavish will be the third man on the ring for the Melligen-Chung war, while a Thai ref will work on the Amonsot-Kim battle.

Assisting the Filipino fighters at ringside are trainers Edmund Villamor, Edwin Gastador and Rey Caitom, the 19-year-old former pro who retired undefeated and now being touted here as the youngest licensed boxing trainer in the world.
