DURAN JR. WILL BE IN THE CORNER OF FEIDER VILORIA AGAINST 'BOOM BOOM' PhilBoxing.com Thu, 08 Feb 2007 The son of World Boxing Hall of Fame awardee Roberto Duran will be in the corner of WBC Latino Super Bantamweight champion Feider Viloria who will go up against Filipino rising star Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista on the co-feature of the Feb. 24 championship card ?Moment of Truth.? Earlier today, international promoter Sammy ?Don King? Gello-ani of SGG Sports Promotions confirms that Robert Duran Jr. will arrive on Feb. 18 in Cebu from Panama City. Team Viloria will be flying from Baranquilla, Colombia and will also arrive on Feb. 18 in Cebu. ?The coming of Duran Jr.,? said Gello-ani, ?shows how this championship fight of Viloria matters so much to the Latinos.? Roberto Duran is regarded as one of the greatest lightweight boxers of all-time. He held world titles at four different levels ? lightweight (1972-1979), welterweight (1980), junior middleweight (1983-1984), and middleweight (1989). He was also the only boxer to have fought in five different decades before he retired in January 2002 at the age of 50). His devastating punches earned him the nickname ?Manos de Piedra? (Hands of Stone). Duran was born in Panama, and had his first professional fight on Feb 2, 1968 when he won by UD. That win was followed with 30 wins in a row culminating in his first title defense for WBA Lightweight title in New York City where he KO?d Ken Buchanan in the 13th round. His 119 career fights rang 103 wins, 70 of which were KOs. His 70 KO wins placed him in an exclusive group of boxers who have won 50 or more fights by knockout. On Oct 14, 2003, Duran was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame of Los Angeles, California. Viloria will be pitted against WBO No. 1 Super Bantamweight contender Rey ?Boom-Boom? Bautista for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Super Bantamweight and WBO Youth Super Bantamweight titles. From the Mactan Cebu International Airport, Team Viloria will proceed directly to the Rajah Park Hotel at the Fuente Osme?a circle who plays host during their stay in the city.
