NBA -- Bulls sweep preseason with 8-0 slate
By Katrina Barnett PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 Oct 2013

CHICAGO, IL. -- The Chicago Bulls welcomed the Denver Nuggets and former teammate Nate Robinson back to the United Center Friday night for the last game of the preseason.
With Kirk Hinrich (soreness) and Joakim Noah (right groin strain) out of the line-up, the Bulls had a rough start and trailed by 7 after the opening quarter, where they shot just 36 percent from the field against the Nuggets' high 56.5 percent clip.
Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer made only 2-of-6 field goal attempts each while Luol Deng drained 3-of-5. Ty Lawson led the Nuggets with 11 points as Denver took a 28-21 surge.
After continuing to struggle in the second quarter, trailing 48-36 at the halftime break, the Bulls took possession of the lead with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter where Deng swished a 3-pointer that drove the United Center crowd nuts. The Bulls outscored the Nuggets 36-18 in the third quarter to seize momentum.
Chicago maintained its advantage throughout much of the fourth quarter, but the Nuggets crept to within two points with 3:30 left in the game. A back and forth battle ensued before Rose came to the rescue.
With 22.1 seconds left on a one-point game, the former MVP made an amazing pass under the basket to Boozer who stuffed an easy dunk that gave the Bulls a 90-87 cushion. Boozer added two free throws following a missed Robinson 3. And Deng iced the 94-89 triumph with a pair of freebies with 10.6 ticks to go.
With the win, the Bulls swept their preseason schedule at 8-0. They open their regular season October 29 against the two-time defending champions Heat in Miami.
Asked about what he expects from the atmosphere down in Miami with the scheduled ring ceremony, Bulls forward Taj Gibson said he thinks "it will be crazy...but we're ready." (KB)
