GANOY FIGHTS PEDEN FOR IBF PAN PACIFIC TITLE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 27 Jan 2007
Hard-hitting Filipino super featherweight Ranee Ganoy gets the biggest break of his ring career when he battles former IBF junior lightweight champion Robbie Peden for the IBF Pan Pacific lightweight title in Brisbane, Australia on March 9.
Peden lost a twelve round unanimous decision to WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera in September 2005 in Las Vegas and will be entering the ring after an eighteen month layoff. Peden said he has been wanting to fight in Brisbane for some time and was quoted by Mark Vester of boxingscene.com as saying “lightweight is a pretty good division for me right now.”
Ganoy who is managed by Sydney-based Filipino Dido Bohol and is trained by his sons Hermie and Jeffrey Bohol has won his last four fights by stoppage with three TKO’s and one KO. Ganoy’s biggest win was against former Commonwealth Champion Fatai Onekeke on September 15 in what was named Australia’s “Fight of the Year” in 2006.
Ganoy who is a devastating puncher stunned the highly favored Onekeke as early as the second round when he was given two standing eight counts and then again early in round seven before the fight was stopped as Ganoy nailed the former champion with some vicious blows..
In his last fight on December 9, Ganoy scored a third round knockout over Dennapa Bigshotcamp of Thailand after decking Dennapa in the opening round. Ganoy has a record of 18 knockouts in 21 wins with 10 defeats and 2 draws.
Peden who has a record of 25-3 with 14 KO’s will be fighting in his hometown but according to Ganoy’s manager Dido Bohol this doesn’t bother the Filipino.
