BANAL STOPS TOUGH JANDAENG IN 9TH!

PhilBoxing.com

MANDAUE CITY--World title prospect Alex John 'Bazooka' Banal of the ALA Boxing Gym showed why he is being called the future of Philippine boxing as he easily manhandled Thailand's Terdkiat Jandaeng in a one-sided beatdown en route to an impressive ninth-round technical knockout win Saturday night here.

The win improved the 18-year-old Banal's unbeaten slate to 11 wins, 9 KO's with 1 draw and lines him up for a WBO Asia Pacific Youth superfly bout on February 26 underneath the Z Gorres-Fernando Montiel WBO bout in Cebu City.

The victory is also Banal's sixth over foreign foes, and further solidifies his reputation as a fearless, come-as-you-may fighter who takes a separate route by fighting tough foes this early in his career.

Banal, who is eyeing a training stint at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, dominated Jandaeng early, and bucked a second-round gash due to an accidental clash of heads to administer a lop-sided beating before unleashing the coup de grace in the ninth prompting referee Tony Pesons to halt the fight.

FUENTES, MILENDO DECISION FOES
Two other ALA Boys, RP no. 1 flyweight Rocky Fuentes and the unbeaten Milan Milendo scored unanimous decision wins over separate tough rivals in the undercard.

Fuentes, in a reprise of his hotly-contested first fight with Greg Mangan, this time dominated en route to a 98-92, 99-91, 98-92 win over the tough fighter of the Wakee Salud gym.

The Cagayan De Oro-raised Milendo, meanwhile, used a pricking jab and powerful body shots to outscore the tough-as-nails Fabio Marfa, 100-90, 96-94, 97-93.

Meanwhile, what should have been a clear win for Glen Masicampo turned into a controversial victory after his opponent Anton Olarte was given a standing knockdown count by referee Teddy Alivio and declared unfit to continue, drawing loud protest from his manager Willie Neri and trainer Roger Sumampong, who both approached the officials' table to express their displeasure.

"We were not born yesterday, we know our boxing, what the referee did was for amateur boxing. Pro boxing has no standing knockout especially if the boxer is not helpless," Neri told the GAB, virtually throwing the book at the officials.

Neri and Sumampong said they will file a formal protest with the GAB head office to question the validity of the referee's decision.

OTHER RESULTS
ALA Boy Joseph Omanz prevailed on a unanimous decision over Carlo Magale; Edward Apaap took a split decision verdict over a vastly-improved Ruben Santillanosa; gym superstar Jun Intor figured in a technical draw with Noel Sungahid; Leon Maratas eked out a unanimous verdict over Joel De la Cruz; while Romeo 'Jack' Jakosalem won via majority decision over Romnick Rapista.
