By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Aug 2013

In a mandatory WBC weight check, Unified Super Welterweight World Champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (L, above photo) of Mexico tipped the scales at 166.8 lbs, thirty days ahead of his blockbuster fight with boxing superstar Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr., a much waited clash billed as "The One," due to thrill boxing fans September 14 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
Yesterday's weight check - in which the hard-hitting Canelo (42-0-1, 30 KOs) was not suppose to scale more than 169 lbs. - took place at Canelo's training camp in Big Bear, Calif., supervised by WBC official Rudy Tellez of California.
Canelo's collision with the 36-year-old multi-division world champion Floyd Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) will be at catch-weight of 152 lbs, inside the super welterweight division.
The undefeated 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez, appeared in great shape and in high spirits, continues full-throttle training at the 6,772 feet-high Big Bear, watched over by handlers Chepo and Eddy Reynoso and brother Ricardo Alvarez.
The Mayweather-Canelo WBC/WBA Super Welterweight World Title fight - which sold all tickets in only two days - is a much appealing boxing event, heading to score extremely high in PPV records, an expert forecasting more than a million and a half PPV buys in the United States.
