Sarreal Boxing International: Making Legends PhilBoxing.com Wed, 17 Jan 2007 By:Francis Magalona Special to PhilBoxing.com Have y'all been to Sarreal Boxing in Banawe in QC? It's my favorite hangout for now, located at the Banawe Terraces Bldg. 3/F. From Quezon Ave, make a right on Banawe then just go straight until you see Sarreal right across SOGO Hotel, you can't miss it. Tops on my list would be the trainers & staff...ALL of them, even the janitors, are still fighting, competing, and will compete in competitions. My trainer alone, Don-Don "The Don" Jimenea from Gen-San is 17-0 as a boxer who last fought Dec. 29,2006 in Bataan and will fight again in Feb. 9 in Tarlac. When the people who train you, are themselves in training, and in competition, you can be assured that you get top-notch service. 2nd thing that impressed me are the facilities, 2 rings and the other one, the red ring, is rented out always, and that means it's legit, not some "bara-bara" made to order 4 cornered joke. The gym/free weights/aerobics/stretching area is made of parquet-tiled wood, and is padded under the wood w/ springs so as not to hurt your knees. The speedballs, the bodybags, punching bags (made by Chris Sports) of very high quality material, and are all nice to punch and use. Special Mention would be the bathrooms/changing rooms. How do you spell H-O-T-E-L? Sarreal. Airconditioned rooms for showering, taking a crap, for changing clothes, this is as good as it gets. You got a nice accomodating front desk, where you pay and may order your H20 or energy drink. Official Chris Sports products on sale, Windy gloves & apparel, Cleto Reyes Gloves, Mooto fighting shoes (which I gave Bitoy for his Xmas & bday gift) and assorted fighting gear, like mitts, mouthpieces etc.. Upstairs on the second floor there's a viewing area, TV room, and a Fight room which will be dedicated to grappling, wrestling, Mixed Martial Arts complete with mat and viewing window. The ceiling is high, lighting is good, lights are bright, true halogen lamps and is fantastic for my "malabo" eyes. The giant swiveling fans on the walls and floors provide ample air circulation and the scenic 3rd floor window view of the street provides a nice view at night and also has great cross ventilation. There is a locker/holding area for the members bags & equipment and is accesible at all times. For people who smoke, there is a small room that is has a rooftop view of the other side of the street. But why would anyone wanna gym and then smoke? Beats me. But at least they did not alienate the smokers, so kudos to the owners for being, uhmmm.."caring" haha. Ang pinaka-come on pa nito are the numerous eating, nice restos around the area, like King Crab, Ice Monster,Dencios, countless chinese eateries, the groundfloor alone, there's a bakery, a chinese seafood resto, right beside is Wham Burgers...it's near everything. Quick trivia for all, my dad Pancho was good friends w/ Papa Lope Sarreal and Flash "Bai" Elorde, and they had many SMB drinking sprees in the past. I would see them visit our Magalona Compound near Shaw back in the day and talk about another kind of fighting-"Cockfighting" of which my dad was a breeder. Bless their soul. Kuya Jun Sarreal was my dad's friend too, and is currently one of the busiest local and international boxing fight promoters today. To Kuya Jun, Jester,Jerbie, Carl, all the partners, all the trainers-Bow ako sa Sarreal Boxing Intl. Five Stars!!! To the 140+ (& growing) members, congratulations, you made a good choice. I am personally endorsing Sarreal from now on. For More Inquiries: 3rd Flr. Banawe Terraces Bldg. 169 Banawe St. corner Sta.
