Mayweather-Canelo media tour hits Chicago By John Aldwin Mahipos PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Jun 2013  CHICAGO -- The media tour for the upcoming blockbuster fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez made a quick stop at the Chicago Theatre here in Windy City Wednesda night. A crowd of over 3,500 predominantly Hispanic fans came out to support their local hero, the undefeated rising superstar, Canelo Alvarez. Chants of "Ca-Ne-Lo" reverberated throughout out the famous theatre, burying the chants of the out-numbered Mayweahter supporters. Alvarez, who owns an impressive record of 42-0-1 with 30 knockouts will try to solve the riddle that is Money Mayweather, arguably the best boxer of this generation, who has soundly beaten all opponents he faced in the ring, while amassing an immaculate record of 44-0-0 with 26 knockouts. The 36-year-old Mayweather, ranked as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world by many sporting news and boxing websites including Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Fox Sports, and Yahoo! Sports, currently holds the WBC welterweight and WBA super welterweight belt. While the 22-year-old Alvarez have the WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine light middleweight champion under his name. Both fighters' super welterweight/junior middleweight titles are on the line -Mayweather's WBA super welterweight "super" championship, and Alvarez's WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine super welterweight championships. The fight will be held on September 14, 2013 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be at a catchweight of 152 lbs. as agreed by both fighters. It will be shown on Showtime PPV and is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and Canelo Promotions. (JAM).
