IT'S ?SHOWTIME?WITH MAYWEATHER AND ALVAREZ
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 26 Jun 2013

Its was ?Showtime? when undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr and unbeaten Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez kicked off their big city prefight tour in the heart of Times Square in New York.
While fans went wild the two fighters stared each other down for almost a minute as Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schafer billed the fight as ?The One? claiming that it was the fight boxing fans had long wanted to see, conveniently ignoring the undeniable fact that fight fans had long wanted a Mayweather battle with eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather said "Canelo, I appreciate you for taking the fight, now let's give the fans what they want to see." He added, ?"The earth is my turf, you can put me in any ring and I will always come out victorious."
As fans chanted ?Mex-i-co!? the 22 year old Alvarez who is 14 years younger than Mayweather replied, "In the sport of boxing, it's everybody's time, and this is my time"
The 11 city tour will take the fighters to such cities as Washington, Chicao, Miami and Mexico City.
Showtime which invested heavily in Mayweather expects the fight to be a huge pay-per-view success which may also satisfy many fans who have been wishing for several years for Mayweather to take on Manny Pacquiao.
Showtime Sports executive vice president and general manager Stephen Espinoza said ?In every sport there are certain rare occasions when you have the best fighting the best. The Super Bowl, Final Four, the college football national championship? September 14 will be one of those occasions; the two biggest stars in the sport, the two biggest fan bases.
He added, "We have America's No 1 fighter against Mexico's No 1. We have the No 1 pound-for-pound fighter versus the No 1 new star in the sport."
