Sumalinog, Castanol rule Senior, PWD fun run

FORMER marathon champion Reynaldo Sumalinog and Abe Macario ruled the PPP Seniors and PWD Fun Run 2025 held today, December 13 at the Bago Aplaya Park of the Talomo Coastal Road in Davao City.
The 61-year-old Sumalinog,formerly of Rizal Memorial Colleges track and field, topped Super Seniors 5K division.

Second was Ricky Blanco followed by Ariel Villamor.

Castanol,on the other hand, won the Super PWD – 5K division.
Aldrin Escobal was second followed by Wilfredo Diangco.

In the Seniors 3K, Antonio Maluya grabbed first place in the male division.

Second was Reynaldo Dizon followed by Noe Almagro.

Lani Lagdamen topped the distaff side followed by Rachel Amuala and Evangeline Pitaoas second and third, respectively.

The other results:
2K –Wheelchair Assisted (WA)
1st- Evangeline Nogmanao, 2nd - EpenitoSaniel, 3rd -Aidan John Grino.
PWD –3K
Male -1st – Abe Macario, 2nd – Kevin Earl Pantaleon, 3rd – Wendell Rabanuel
Female- 1st – Athena Mae Bitacura, 2nd – Femie Lacaser, 3rd – Jellian Garrido

Almost 1,000 runners joined one of the most inclusive community events of the year organized by the Pulong Pulong ni Pulong(PPP) Movement.

Carrying the theme “Padayon Ta (Let’s Keep Moving Forward),” the activity aimed to promote active aging, wellness, and social inclusion by providing senior citizens and PWDs a safe, accessible, and enjoyable sporting experience.

Chief of Staff Jay Villarica of the First District Office of Rep. Paolo Duterte, said the fun run reflects the office’s continuing commitment to programs that placehealth, dignity, and community solidarity at the center.

“This event is about encouraging movement, confidence, and togetherness among ourseniors and PWDs. Everyone deserves opportunities to stay active and feel included,” Villarica said.
All runners received free registration, singlets, meals, souvenirs, and timingchip–enabled race bibs.

Participants were required to present medical certificates and doctors’ clearances prior to joining, while families and supporters lined the route to cheer them on.

A prominent visual message during the run read “Bring Rody, A True Dabawenyo, Home,” reflecting continued public support for former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, a figure Villarica said remains deeply rooted in Davao City’sidentity.

Second District Rep. Omar Duterte, who attended the event, thanked participants for the strong turnout.

"Thank you very much for your participation. There are many more who want to join, and we will continue with activities that strengthen the health and unity of the community," said Duterte.
Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte said the initiative underscores the importance of uplifting vulnerable and often underserved sectors by giving them visibility, meaningful participation, and consistent support.

He also expressed gratitude for the continued support extended to the Duterte family, noting that former President Duterte regularly asks for updates aboutthe people and the city of Davao. [with PR]
