Former Servania Opponent Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia Killed in Mexico

PhilBoxing.com

Mexican world-class fighter Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia was killed with four gun shots to his head in San Agustin Atzompa, junta auxiliar de San Lorenzo Chiautzingo in Mexico, the Mexican media reported today.

According to newspaper Periodico Tribuna, Garcia's body was found by a passerby who alerted the police.

Mexican Federal Agent Claudia Farrera Sponda of the Justice Ministry of Huejotzingo took to the scene for investigation and effected the removal of the body for an autopsy to performed.

It's still very early in the Police investigation, but four gun shots to the head suggest that "Poblanito" might have been murdered in execution style as killers are still at large.

The popular Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia (39-10, 23 KO's) fought last year in the Philippines, waging a thrilling war with undefeated super bantamweight rising star Genesis Servania (21-0, 8KO's) in one of the intense fights of "Pinoy Pride XIV: Night of Champions."

In that exciting 12-round battle, "Poblanito" fought Servania well with smart moves, speed and a big heart. But in the final seconds of last round the veteran Mexican warrior grew tired and slowed down, being pinned with huge shots by the younger and fresher Servania.

The ever brave "Poblanito" fell to the canvas two times in the dramatic last instances of the 12th round before legendary referee man Bruce McTavish correctly stopped by the contest.

After the Poblanito-Servania fight, a standing audience of satisfied thrilled fans applauded both warriors for the enormous effort.

"The kid (Servania) is strong. I felt him stronger than (Toshiaki) Nishioka," said "Poblanito" Garcia afterwards.

In his life, Poblanito exchanged bombs with some of the best fighters in his weight class, including Wilfredo Vazquez Jr, Toshiaki Nishioka and Hozumi Hasegawa.

In his younger years, the fighting kid of Puebla, Mexico, defeated tough former champs Adonis Rivas, Mauricio Martinez, Rafael Marquez and Victor Rabanales. Has also held victory over the likes of Mike Roman, Oscar Arciniega, Cuauhtemoc Gomez.

An exciting fighter and a polite gentleman outside the ring, many Filipino fans had the chance to meet him during the week he spent last June in the Philippines.

At the moment of his death, "Poblanito" was 35 year-old.

May his soul rest in peace.
