NBA -- Kidd take over Nets' coaching helm

CHICAGO -- Less than two weeks after announcing his retirement, Jason Kidd has accepted the new challenge of becoming the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
The 40-year-old perennial All star replaces interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo, whom the Nets refused to offer a contract after the Nets lost a Game 7 at home against the Chicago Bulls in the opening round of the playoffs.
Although a newbie in the coaching circle, Kidd brings to the table a ton of knowledge and a high basketball I.Q.
He is a 10-time NBA All-Star, 5-time NBA first team selection, NBA co-rookie of the year in 1994, one of the only four players to reach 10,000 assists, the only player in NBA history with 15,000 points, 10,000 assists and 7,000 rebounds, and he ranks No.2 behind the great John Stockton in the assists and steals categories. He also won a championship in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks.
He is coming back to coach a team he led to back-to-back Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003, falling short to the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs respectively.
A sure fire Hall-of-fame when he becomes eligible, Jason Kidd will be working with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez, Brooklyn's own big "3". And with a solid supporting cast composed of Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries and Andray Blatche, the Nets management along with billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov, hopes he will lead them to title contention.
