NBA -- Spurs repulse Warriors in 2OT thriller

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES -- Manu Ginobli sank a three-pointer with 1.2 seconds left in double overtime to bail out the San Antonio Spurs over the Golden State Warriors, 129-127, and take Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal Monday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

The never-say-die Spurs clawed back from a 16-point deficit with four minutes left in regulation and clamped down on Stephen Curry's magnificent 44-point output to score their 30th straight home win against the stunned Warriors.

An 18-2 run highligted by Tony Parker's direction and capped by Ginobili's clutch three nullified Curry's brilliant second-half assault as he scored almost at will, sinking most of 28 points in a 20-minute stretch that gave the Warriors a seemingly insurmountable lead.

"I have no clue. I really got to watch it to see what happened," Ginobili said. "They started missing shots. Steph was unbelievable in the third quarter."

Green had 22 points on six-of-nine shooting from beyond the arc even as center Boris Diaw made clutch plays including a clutch three-pointer to make up for the sidelined Tim Duncan. Duncan, playing for only 35 minutes with a bum stomach, added 19 points and 11 rebounds.

It was a painful loss for the Warriors, who scored only 14 fourth quarter points. A spent Curry, who turned in 11 assists, played all but four seconds of the entire 58-minute battle and struggled to score all of his last six points in overtime.

?We?re not the first team to lose a game like this, we won?t be the last,? Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. ?It doesn?t mean we?re going to accept it. At the end of the day, they made plays and we didn?t make enough.?

Kawhi Leonard's defense played a pivotal role in the two overtime periods and in the fourth quarter. The 6-7 forward hounded the diminutive Curry as he also knocked down 18 key points for the Spurs. (SD)
