THE MAYWEATHER-GUERRERO WEIGH-IN? NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY

PhilBoxing.com

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas:- Golden Boy Promotions in cooperation with the Mayweather Promotions held the official weigh-in early this afternoon at the MGM Grand Arena.

Many folks thought it would be something spectacular what with the hype done by the promoters and their TV partner ShowSports.

But really, it was nothing out of the ordinary.

The place was supposed to be filled to the brim with fans supporting Gilroy, CA?s Robert Guerrero and the fans of Floyd Mayweather Jr plus those who came hoping to see him lose.

However, an hour before the official weigh-in start at 3:00 p.m., there well still hundreds of free seats available.

In fairness however, in the end there were less vacant seats available but it was not full as expected.

?It?s nothing compared to the weigh-ins when Manny Pacquiao fights,? lamented a fan who drove all the way from Atlanta, Georgia said to me as we excited the arena after the event.

In addition, the guest emcee or the ?drum-beater? who kept the fans occupied as we all waited for 3:00 PM to come, kept on plugging the fact that there were still tickets available even at that time.

?I thought the damn place was sold out,? said a Pinoy fight fan who introduced himself to me after recognizing my PhilBoxing T-Shirt.

When Mayweather and Guerrero were asked by GBP?s Eric Gomez to pose for photos after they both made weight (Mayweather at 146 lbs and Guerrero at 147 lbs), Mayweather tried his darn best to stare down Guerrero but was having a difficult time as Guerrero appears slightly taller than him.

But it was good while it lasted.

Gabriel Rosado and J?Leon Love almost stole the show. Love came in at 1.5 lbs over the contracted weight of 160 while Rosado had to take off his socks to make 160 lbs.

It appears that the GBP people were appealing to Rosado to accept the overweight and go on with the fight but Rosado?s team refused to budge. They yelled at Love and told them to make the weight or they don?t fight

Cooler heads had to separate them and Love went on to try to lose the weight. At this writing we don?t know if he did but given the importance of the fight, we have no doubt Love will lose the extra pounds.

Mares and Ponce de Leon were amazingly different from the rest of the fighters. There was no trash talk but only pure respect for each other.

But, as many has said, they are bound to steal the show from the main event fighters unless Guerrero pulls a great upset and do what he said he will.

The general consensus amongst the media?

Mayweather will prevail.
