Pontillas, Tagoe Make Weight For WBA/WBO fight in Ghana
By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 Apr 2013
Pontillas (R) and Tagoe.
Filipino super featherweight Ronald Pontillas (15-5-3, 7KO?s) of Las Pi?as, Metro Manila and world-ranked Ghanaian fighter Emmanuel Tagoe (20-1, 8KO's) successfully made weight in their second try, paving the road for their exciting match for the vacant WBA Super Featherweight International Title Tomorrow at the 40,000-seater open-air Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana.
Pontillas appears taller than the tough Tagoe, but the African has a better record than the Filipino and enjoys the advantage of being the hometown kid.
"We fight anywhere we have too. Pontillas is a warrior and this a great chance to capture two international titles and get into the world rankings. That's what we want. Last October Pontillas won by knockout in Japan. Why he can not win by knockout in Africa?" shared the optimist Filipino matchmaker Brico Santig, director of Baguio's Highland Boxing.
Aside from his matchmaker Brico Santig, the 23-year-old Ronald Pontillas is in the western African country accompanied by experienced trainer Samson Amongo.
The Tagoe-Pontillas for the WBA international title is also valid for the vacant WBO African Super Featherweight Title, the winner most likely getting a slot into the fifteen best 130-pounders in the Puerto Rico-based organization.
The fight will be broadcast LIVE on SuperSport Channel.
Gates at Accra Sports Stadium will open at 7pm. The first fight begins at 8pm (Ghana Time).
