NBA -- World Peace to return sooner than expected

SAN FRANCISCO -- A mere 12 days after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his left knee, Los Angeles Lakers small forward Metta World Peace is returning to action tonight, way much sooner than the six weeks that was supposed to put him on the sidelines.
The Lakers host the New Orleans Hornets today at Staples Center and head coach Mike D'Antoni told ESPN Los Angeles that World Peace "won't start, but he will play."
The quick return is some sort of a minor miracle and Kobe Bryant took notice and called World Peace a "Wolverine." Lakers back-up guard Chirs Duhon joined the chorus of praise and referred to his teammate as "Superman."
Formerly known as Ron Artest, World Peace hurt his knee last March 25 when the Lakers lost to the Golden State Warriors, 109-103, at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. The 33-year old veteran with 13 years of NBA experience under his belt is averaging 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the Lakers this season.
With a record of 40 wins and 37 losses, the Lakers are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference and out of the playoffs picture. They are one-half game behind the 41-37 Utah Jazz with five games left in their schedule.
The Jazz, who hold the tie-breaker against Los Angeles, have four games left to play.including today's match-up against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake city, Utah. (RSM)
