 Tunacao.
Malcolm ?Eagle Eye? Tunacao will get another attempt at world title when he fights W.B.C. Bantamweight champ, Shinsuke Yamanaka in his next bout.
The 35 year old Tunacao will fight the Japanese champ on April 8th in Tokyo, Japan in a venue that will be announced soon.
Tunacao earned this shot by climbing up the rank of the WBC?s rating ladder with impressive wins over fellow ranked bantamweight rated opponents. He fought three times last year and won all three, two by knockouts and a Unanimous Decision (UD) victory.
Tunacao, a native of Mandaue City, Cebu but now resides and trains in Kobe, Japan, won a 7th round TKO of Christian Esquivel in an eliminator to decide Yamanaka?s next opponent. The win also gave made Tunacao the number 1 rated and mandatory challenger to the crown that Yamanaka has worn since 2011.
?Excited,? was Tunacao?s reaction when he learned of the news last week. He told Philboxing.com that he will fly back to Japan on the 22nd of this month for a press conference to announce the fight. Tunacao is currently vacationing in the Philippines after his recent victory, where he is spending time with his family.
Tunacao was a former world champ, winning the WBC Flyweight belt almost twelve years ago when he defeated Medgoen Singsurat of Thailand in 2000. His reign with the belt was short-lived, losing the belt in less than a year after capturing it.
Tunacao?s boxing record stands at 32 wins (20 KOs), 2 defeats and three draws while Yamanaka is unbeaten in his career with 17 wins (12 KOs) and 2 draws.
Their fight will be part of a triple header that will feature two other title bouts that night in the Japanese capital.
