Vic Darchinyan Q & A

PhilBoxing.com

Q & A with two division world champion Vic ?The Raging Bull? Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KOs)

Vic what is the next fight you?re looking at presently?

?There isn?t anything in writing at the moment but I want to fight anyone with a belt. Anyone from 112 to 130. If anyone has a belt and wants to go to war, I?m in?

What?s your promotional status at the moment? I heard you interviewed on the boxing voice and you said you were a free agent?

?We can make any fight happen with any promoter. Right now I haven?t got a contract with any promoter and I am open to any serious offers. My time with Gary Shaw was good, Gary is a good guy but unfortunately the guys in my division are not with GSP. I need to fight three or four times a year not twice and at the moment it?s hard for GSP to offer me fights. I will travel anywhere in the world to fight for a title. If the money is there and there?s a belt I promise to put on a great show for boxing fans?

Have you had any discussions with anyone at the moment?

?My team have already looked at a few options. Fidel Tukel spoke to a number of promoters at the WBA conference and also Angelo Hyder and Don Majesky have looked at a few options also for me. There is a lot of interest and members of my team are respected in the boxing world and if anyone has any serious offers they know how to get into contact with them. It?s all about making the right decision. I want to fight, I want to be in wars and I want to give the fans what they want and what they deserve, good action and good boxing?

Which fighters would you personally like to fight?

I want Abner Mares & Nonito Donaire?

?Mares knows he didn?t win his fight against me. He is a world champion of low blows. How does it happen that Agbeko gets a rematch for being hit low? I was hit low more times than Agbeko but no one did anything about. I understand boxing is a business but if a fighter is fouled he shouldn?t be punished for it, the person who commits the foul should be punished, Mares should have been disqualified, now he wants to fight Donaire, no way Abner, fight me you cheat. He knows if fights me again what?s going to happen, he can?t throw his low blows although against Moreno he was up to his low blow tricks?

?As for Nonito its bullshit he is fighting Arce. I bashed Arce. Arce doesn?t deserve a shot at the belts. He is finished, he talked and talked about fighting everyone that beat him then Arce won?t fight me because he knows what will happen. Nonito needs to fight me. Nonito is a good fighter but the fans want see good fights not Nonito bashing a bum like Arce for a few rounds. I will fight Nonito anywhere, anytime?

Is there anyone else you have looked that you would like to fight?

?I would like to fight Santa Cruz. He?s a warrior and I know we would put on a great fight. I come to fight and I know he comes to fight and I also saw Villoria fight on the weekend they are both warriors?

We heard from sources close to you that you carried a serious injury into the Moreno bout?

I had a hairline fractured neck vertebrae that I got sparring Czar Amonsot. I went to throw him off and I felt something but kept sparring. When i got home I couldn't move my neck, I thought it was just a pulled muscle. It wasn?t until I got to America and had scans that I knew it was a bit more serious. My team wanted me to call off the fight but I thought I could go in and knock Moreno out. My timing wasn?t there I only sparred 30 rounds for the fight and I normally do 140 rounds of sparring. It was a big mistake I made but I couldn?t let my fans down that had travelled from all over the world to see me fight. It was also the first time in many years that the fight was televised on free to air in Australia so it was a big deal to make the fight happen?

You turn 37 soon, how much longer do you think you stay fighting at the elite level?

You saw in the fight against Del Valle I changed my game plan, that?s the way its staying. I can box as good as anyone but I used to want to try and knockout my opponents with every punch to make it more exciting for the fans, they pay the money so us boxers can fight. But in my fights against Moreno and Yamanaka they started to run the whole fight like chickens, that?s when I realised I need to mix it up more. Skills come first then power not the other way around. I?ll be fighting into my forties, I feel like I am 22 years old still. I don?t drink, I don?t smoke, I don?t put big weight on between fights, i am ready to fight everyday of the year. You saw against Del Valle, the kid is a good fighter but I am one of the best when I box. When I box they can run as much as they want, if they want to only score points ill do the same, if they want to stand and trade ill knock them out, anyway is fine by me because the Raging Bull is going to be here a while?

We hope to see you in the ring again soon Vic, have you got a message for your fans out there around the world?

Thank you to all my fans for their support. Without them I wouldn?t be where I am today and I promise that every fight I?m in, I?m going to make it the best fight possible for them.?
