NBA -- Knicks close preseason with a bang By Roel Iway PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 Oct 2012 ![]() UNIONDALE, NEW YORK -- The banged up New York Knicks finished their preaseson schedule at 3-3 following a thrilling 97-95 overtime victory over in-state rivals the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday night before an enthusiastic crowd at the Nassau Colisuem. But the triumph came with a hefty price as center Tyson Chandelr hurt his left knee when he collided with Gerald Wallace a mere 44 seconds after tip-off. An MRI has yet to determine the severity of the injury. The Knicks are already short on bigs as both Amare Stoudemire and Marcus Camby are recovering from injuries while veteran Rasheed Wallace is still trying to get into game shape after a two-year hiatus. Without their healthy frontline, the Knicks got clobbered in the rebounds department, 47-37, but they made up for the huge disadvantage by dishing way more assists than the Nets, 26-8. Both teams, which each had 19 turnovers, will square off again at the spanking new Barclay's Center when the 67h NBA regular season kicks off on Tuesday, November 1. Rookie Chris Copeland continued on with his fabulous preseason, this time leading the Knicks with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Carmelo Anthony had 15 points and nine rebounds while Raymond Felton recorded 15 points and five assists for New York, who shot just 34-of-81 from the field for a weak 42 percent clip. Ex-Bull Ronnie Brewer chipped in 12 markers for the Knicks. Deron Williams paced the Nets with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. The All-Star guard also belted three rebounds and two assists. Joe Johnson, the Nets' prized offseason catch from Atlanta, had a quiet eight points while teammate Chris Humphries, famously known as Hollywood celebrity Kim Kardashiam's husband for 72 days, came up with a decent seven points and seven rebounds. The Nets sank just 35-of-87 field goals (40.2 percent) but they rallied from 12 points down, 81-69, in the final 7:37 of the fourth quarter to force overtime.
