A NEW STAR IS BORN: BOXING FANS, MEET TRIPLE G!

PhilBoxing.com

Golovkin.
Verona, NY ? After almost a month of drought from lack of meaningful boxing matches on television, boxing fans in the States and worldwide were treated to one last night and was subsequently introduced to what could be a name to reckon with in the sport.

Hardcore boxing fans and boxing scribes know his capabilities. European boxing fans are aware of his power. Last night in Upstate New York, America and mainstream boxing fans through HBO?s Boxing After Dark (BAD) series, were introduced to boxing?s next big thing.

His name is Gennady Golovkin, a power punching monster from the country of Kazakhstan which is part of the old Soviet republic.

Golovkin has a reputation of being a knockout artist and he proved that reputation last night by dismantling Polish middleweight, Grzegorz Proksa 28-1 (21 KOs) in five rounds. Golovkin knocked down his opponent three times en route to a 5th round TKO win at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York.

Proksa hit the canvass in rounds 1, 4 and 5 courtesy of vicious combinations from the unbeaten Golovkin who knocked out 20 of his 23 previous opponents. The Kazakh fighter hit the awkward Polish fighter who was never knocked down in his career with punches emanating from both his right and left hand. He tagged the Polish middleweight with punches in the head and the body, punches that clearly hurt Proksa.

But Proksa would not give up easily. He stood up every time he got dropped by his strong foe. He would continue fighting despite the developing swelling in his face with the fight barely in its first half. A massive right hand dropped him for the third time on the 5th and despite getting up, Referee Charlie Fitch had enough. Fitch stopped the punishment at 1:11 of the said round.

Golovkin who remained humble after his big victory admitted that he himself felt Proksa?s power. ?Proksa is a good fighter, he is strong. I feel him. I feel him at the second round.? said Golovkin who improved to 24-0 with 21 KO?s on his post-fight interview.

Golovkin who clearly has been learning to speak English was gracious of his introduction last night to American boxing fans. ?This is my dream to fight in HBO and (in) America. I am happy. I am happy now.?

The undefeated fighter also stated that he is available to fight anybody in the talent laden Middleweight Division and beyond it. ?(It) doesn?t matter who (?s) next, I?m ready. I?ll stay here. I?m ready now, I?m ready now.?

Yes, it seems that the 30 year old unbeaten Golovkin is ready for anyone they put in front of him and ready to wow the rest of the boxing world. And boxing is ready for someone as refreshing as Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin.

If you can?t pronounce his name, just call him GGG or Triple G. I am sure he won?t mind.
