CASIMERO TO DEFEND WORLD TITLE AUGUST 4 IN MAZATLAN, M?XICO

PhilBoxing.com

Well-known Mexican boxing promotion company Promociones del Pueblo has announced today that Filipino IBF Jr. Flyweight World Champion Johnriel Casimero of Ormoc, Leyte will make his first title defense against undefeated hard-hitting Mexican Pedro Guevara (18-0-1, 13KO's) on August 4 at the Centro de Convenciones in Mazatl?n, Sinaloa, M?xico.

The challenger Pedro Guevara, a young Mexican slugger who has been NABF titlist as well as WBC Silver Jr. Flyweight champ, is a prot?g? of popular legendary Mexican fighter ?rik "El Terrible" Morales.

Guevara hails from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, the place of the combat, and is current the IBF # 5 fighter, position that he earned after victories over compatriots Jos? Guadalupe Mart?nez, Manuel Jim?nez and Patricio Camacho, credentials that has prompted a good number of Mexican boxing analysts to give high probabilities in Guevara to dethrone Casimero, a clash that will take place in about 2 weeks time.

The combat will be Pedro Guevara's first shot at a world title.

Meanwhile Filipino IBF World Champion Johnriel Casimero (16-2, 10KO's), who yesterday was elevated from interim champ to regular IBF world champion, is well-remembered by boxing fans all over the world for starring in the controversial February 10 fight in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in which he knocked out local Luis "El Mosquito" Lazarte in round 10, just to be mobbed by an uncontrolled angry crowd who chased the pinoy and his team while throwing chairs into the ring till police to stop the shameful incident.

But such regretful episode is highly unlikely to ever happen in Mexico, a country known for welcoming Filipinos boxers. In fact, the August 4 combat will be Casimero's second match in the land of Salvador S?nchez. Two years ago Casimero, then only 20 year-old, lost his interim WBO title to Ramon Garcia Hirales in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.

However, that defeat to Garcia Hirales was a close split decision and Casimero, now 22, is seen as a more accomplished, strong and experienced boxer as well as world champion.

The Casimero-Guevara title fight card is a promotion of Promociones del Pueblo in association with HG Boxing of Hector Garcia, Sampson Boxing of Samson Sampson Lewkowicz and Grupo Modelo.

The fight card will be broadcast by Mexico's TELEVISA.
