FARENAS: "MY ONLY WAY TO WIN IS TO KNOCKOUT UCHIYAMA"
PhilBoxing.com Sun, 20 May 2012

Michael Farenas is on his way to Baguio City to commence his training camp for the biggest fight of his career, to challenge WBA 130 lbs champion Takashi Uchiyama. Farenas will train at the famous Pacquiao training den Shape Up Boxing Gym at the Cooyeesan Hotel. Farenas is accompanied by advisor and former world champion Gerry Pe?alosa.
According to Farenas, "I was ecstatic when Kuya Gerry revealed the good news to me. Finally, a world championship fight! But then I was taken aback by the fact that I will be facing a very dangerous champion in Uchiyama. He knocked out marquee champions Jorge Solis and Juan Carlos Salgado. It's not a joke going to Japan, fighting a great champion in his hometown. I know how it is to fight within enemy's turf. It's a knock out win or nothing for me. But all is fair in boxing. We both have fists that can punch. His status as a great champ has only motivated me to train like there's no tomorrow and beat him in front his countrymen. I have always been ready for a world championship. My past showings may not be that consistent but this is different. I am giving it my everything."
Gerry Pe?alosa also expressen confidence and faith on his protege. "Mike has the ring smarts, but this time he has to combine technique, power and timing. He needs to knock Uchiyama out otherwise he won't stand a chance in winning by decision. This is a make or break fight for him. That is why he needs to give everything during training camp. But I wouldn't have sealed the deal if I knew he can't win this one. Farenas can win and add another belt to out country."
The Uchiyama vs. Farenas fight will be under the same card as the world championship bout between WBC Flyweight and Ring Magazine Champion Sonny Boy Jaro vs. Toshiyuki Igarashi on July 16 at Kasukabe, Saitama, Japan.
Watch out for more updates!
