RP Light Middleweight Champ, Marlon Alta Wins the Vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental 160-lb Title Last Night as Samoan Opponent Quits in His Corner After the 2nd Round

Marlon Alta.
SUCAT, PARA?AQUE CITY ? It was a quick night for Elorde Boxing Stable's Marlon Alta who improved his record to 12-2-0, 9 KOs in the main event of the action-packed ?BAKBAKAN SA ELORDE? card last night at the Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex. Thanks to the consistent punches to the body of his opponent, Afakasi Pele Faumuina who had enough of the Elorde boxer?s crushing blows, which seemed to have sapped him out of his air and had him retire in his corner even before the bell rang to start the third round.

It was an impressive performance for the General Santos City native who had listened very well to the instructions of his corner men and ringside fans during the fight who kept on shouting that he goes some more to the body right after a well-placed right hook to the body put his visiting opponent down on the canvas grimacing in pain in the second canto. These cracking investments to the sides of the body paid off as right afterwards, the Samoan-born New Zealander was seen talking to the ringside physician telling him that he couldn?t go on with the third round anymore. This then signaled referee-in-charge Bruce McTavish to wave the fight off awarding the Filipino with a 2nd-round TKO victory.

With his adversary quitting in his corner, the 22-year old prospect of Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde?s Sucat, Para?aque branch has won the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Middleweight belt while still keeping his Games and Amusement Board Light Middleweight title.

In the main supporting bout, skillful and fast-punching Jaderes ?Mayon? Padua (who is also the reigning Interim WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title) of Elorde Sucat won via TKO at 2:52 seconds of the fifth round over the very durable Jerry Sismundo of General Santos City in their non-title featherweight match-up. A legitimate punch from him in the fifth round had opened a nasty cut on the left eyebrow of his brave but overmatched opponent that forced referee Carlo Baluyot to temporarily halt the bout. The assigned ringside physician then checked the cut and ordered that the fight be stopped.
With the win, he upped his already-impressive record to 7-1-1, 5 KOs and caught the attention of the ringside spectators, including this writer, with his blinding speed; fast combinations and very good ring generalship. Surely, he is an interesting prospect to watch out for.

Results of the other fights:
Current WBC Youth Intercontinental Bantamweight champion, Vergel Nabran of Pangasinan and also of Elorde Sucat won an almost shut-out victory over his opponent, Daryl Amoncio of Taytay, Rizal?s SBS Boxing Promotions. He outboxed him in their fight that was marred by the latter?s unnecessary and annoying clowning around the ring but was highlighted with the victor knocking him hard in the 2nd round. As the smoke cleared after six rounds, he won by scores of 59-54 twice and 59-55. He increases his record to 8-3-1, 6 KOs.

For six rounds in the Flyweight division, Rene Dacquil of Elorde Sucat had outworked and outmuscled his opponent, Mabert Paulino of the Biron Boxing Stable who would always be seen being staggered to the corners by his stronger opponent. He won with the scorecards indicating 60-54 all in his favor.

Elorde Sucat?s Emmanuel Sapo settled for a unanimous draw after four rounds with opponent, Joebert Mara?on of Marikina City. He was enjoying an obvious lead early on in the fight with his boxing skills because his busy left jabs were finding their targets. However, Mara?on?s durability and showboating in the ring might have taken their toll on him as the latter rounds went his way. The scores were all 38-38.

In a super bantamweight fight, Dan Aldia of Elorde Sucat knocked down Ariscon Boxing Gym?s Charlie Gabriel in the 1st round and out for good the second time around when a one-two combination sent the latter down and standing up on shaky legs. The fight was waved off by referee Ben Pe?afiel when he noticed the latter was not fit to continue any longer at 45 seconds of the 1st round making the former the 1st-round TKO winner.

Elorde Sucat?s debuting light flyweight boxer, Adrian Camigue of Lebak, Sultan Kudarat registered his 1st professional victory with a 1st-round TKO win over Libon, Albay?s Herman Rubio (0-4-0). He knocked him down in the 1st round and followed this up with a barrage of punches that sent the latter crashing to the canvas on all fours. Unable to recover from the second knockdown, the referee stopped the bout at 34 seconds of the same round.

This boxing promotion was presented by the Elorde International Productions in cooperation with Ginebra San Miguel.
