VILLANUEVA LOSES BY 2ND ROUND KNOCKOUT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 May 2012 ![]() Lorenzo "Thunderbolt" Villanueva was knocked out in the second round by Indonesia?s former Olympian Daud Cino Yordan in a battle for the vacant International Boxing Organization (IBO) featherweight title at the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore. Villanueva who is known for his awesome punching power dropped Yordan with a thundering left straight early in the opening round but while he chased the Indonesian he missed with several wild punches allowing Yordan time to recuperate and slowly turn the tide in the fight. The Indonesian began to catch Villanueva with some excellent counter punches in round two as the Filipino continued to swing wildly. Yordan hurt Villanueva with a flurry of punches and dropped him with a hard right. Referee Phil Austin gave Villanueva an eight count but he was clearly groggy and Yordan, picking his punches put the game Filipino down for the second time and that was it. Villanueva?s manager, former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol earlier told us in an admiringly candid fashion ?While I have faith in Lorenzo's heart and power, I cannot say for certain what the result of the fight would be.? Pinol added, ?First, I feel that Lorenzo is inferior to Yordan in terms of ring savvy and experience. And second, I do not know how he will react to the sight of 4,000 foreign faces watching him fight.? American Rick Stahely who trained Manny Pacquiao when he won his first world title, the WBC flyweight crown when he scored a sensational 8th round knockout of Thai hero Chatchai Sasakul in December 1998 said Villanueva ?doesn?t have a jab at all just tremendous raw power? and admitted that isn?t good enough against a fighter like Yordan, who Stahely said ?is a fine boxer.?
