FIL-MEX-AM JESSICA SANCHEZ ROLLS TO FINAL 4 IN AMERICAN IDOL

PhilBoxing.com

Thanks to the renewed commitment from Jessica Sanchez? fans as reported and highlighted by TFC, GMA and other media, Jessica was again voted to stay for another week as one of the top 4 American Idols going into next week?s show.

This week?s top 5 competition was presented in two rounds. The contestants were to select any song from the 60?s for the first round and any Brit pop song in the next round.

Jessica paid tribute to Tina Turner by singing her signature song ?Proud Mary?. Jessica performed in her white above the knee dress and high heels that Jimmy Iovine later commented as too mature and racy for her age and might have some bearing on the viewers? votes. Jennifer defended Jessica by saying that we are judging them by their performance but not by their dress.
Like in Tina Turner?s version, Jessica started in a slow tone and then proceeded to funk rock after bowing and throwing her hair in a rock dance performance as her back-up singers/dancers appeared in the background and sang with her in harmony. J.Lo was impressed, ?You so grown up there. It?s crazy. I always forget that you are sixteen years old. You have a little bit of Tina, little bit of Beyonce and a little bit of blah-blah-blah. I missed that last week in your performance when you did the rock stuff. Obviously, the soul and the R B and that kind of stuff is more your lane and we know it obviously shown there. Good job.?

Steven Tyler said, ?You know what, you did it again. You started-off real slow, Then you brought it up just what a good song should. I am hearing the blues come out and I am hearing the stretch out. You took a word like ?rolling? screamed it and just went with it.?

In the rehearsal, regular mentor and music executive Jimmy Iovine and guest mentor Little Steven from Bruce Springsteen?s E Street band talked Jessica into changing ?Proud Mary? saying they hated that song. Iovine said ?It?s a tall order, she got the notes, she got the range, Jessica got to come to the party.? Little Steven advised her to put a little bit of identity to the song with a one-four, one-seven which Jessica admittedly did not understand.

Randy Jackson on the other hand sided with Iovine saying, ?My thing is this performance is just OK with me because you probably took the biggest drag of the night. I mean, Tina performed. She worked. She sweat at the stage.?

Jennifer reacted in defense, ?This is a contest. This is about watching them grow. This is about their journey and yes, you can?t compare. At sixteen years old and Tina doing ?Proud Mary? in her hey days, she did a great job. This is the first time she came out and did something like that and I thought she did well.? Randy was arguing back but J.Lo smirked and stopped him by saying, ?whatever.?

After the first round, on being asked by Ryan Seacrest, the judges chose Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine and Hollie Cavanagh as the top three performers leaving Jessica and Philip Philips in the bottom two. Was this enough to discourage Jessica? Not quite.

In the second round, Jessica showed up sitting on the stage with her bare feet amidst the props of smoke and candles and sang Joe Cocker?s ?You Are So Beautiful? with so much emotion and clarity that mesmerized the audience and placed the judges in awe.

Steven Tyler said that once again you have reminded America how beautiful your voice is and what a great singer you are. ?You will be number one girl.?

Jennifer said, ?How can we let this girl go home. It reminded me when you sing ?I Will Always Love You? and how you captivated the whole audience, you did it again. It?s so beautiful, you took your time with it. So easy to rush the song like that but you did it. Great job Mama.?

Randy concurred, ?In round two, this girl is on top of the leader board right now. The wisdom you have and the talent you have as a singer. When you can hold a straight note like you did so many times, even the high notes and have the vibrato to come at the end, it?s so pro. Some people who has been singing 50 years, can?t do this. Your talent level is so unbelievable. If you continue to tap in the feeling like you did there, you are off to the races. Unbelievable, so good, so good, so good!?

In Thursday's announcement of results, Jessica and Skylar Laine were called last after Joshua and Philip were declared safe and Hollie Cavanagh was isolated in the hot seat as one of the bottom two. It provided a heart-wrenching moments and lip biting to the fans of Jessica as between her and Skylar, she did not performed well in both songs as compared to Skylar who nailed it both. J.Lo asked Skylar after her performance last Wednesday, ?You want to win don?t you. With a performance like that, you just might.?

Then, Jimmy Iovine commented that ?Jessica is the best technical singer but last night was a travesty.?

However, after the smoke cleared, Ryan Seacrest announced, ?Nearly 60 million votes, have decided that the person who goes home tonight is Skylar Laine. Hollie, you are safe.?

Another tap on the back for Jessica?s fans who voted for Jessica Sanchez not once but countless times every week.
